Had mine to the dealer, they didnt know anything about a shim or bulletin, but said they would not recommend adding pieces to a truck that didnt come from the factory. As long as it runs well and lights dont start coming on ill live with it. :driving:

It's an official GM bulletin....

I went to the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong. They said it is normal. I don't believe it. I have sat in other 2014 chevys and do not feel it at all. I took a video of it shaking a cup of water so that yall can get a sense of the amount of vibration I am having. the link is

. let me know what you think. 2 days ago my check engine light came on and onstar said it was something about the emission sensor so I gotta take it in again (and for the recall)

My 2011 with 5.3 and AFM has done this since day one. Dealer said it was how these trucks idle, but then they also said other things that were not true when brought in for issues. Mine was recalled for TPS, but never knew it until it stranded me. They said they also serviced the throttle body (cleaned). It idled good for around 1000 miles, now its starting to get rough again. Good luck getting a smooth idle out of that engine, you can't idle a V-8 at 500 rpm and expect it to run correctly.

I think all the direct injection engines have a TICK. (Note: "GM has these on a ticking timer and programmed to blow up at 100,001 miles) No seriously the direct injection pump and injectors are VERY noisy they made a lot of sound insulation efforts at the engine but it cannot be completely eliminated. Without the sound covers it would be unbearable. I would not purchase mine after hearing it idle until I started about 1/2 dozen 5.3's on the lot they all had the TICK noise, some were louder than others I would say that mine is around the middle.

On the main subject here of the engine vibration I am going to do that cup of water test on mine today. I find it fascinating that a 3mm shim could actually make a difference. i suspect that there may be some other issue along with the shim that is causing the vibration, maybe a fastener torque problem or frame mount misalignment on certain monday and friday build trucks....... What is your build date for your truck fondupot?

Well, this is comforting. Just bought my truck yesterday and my brother and I both noticed that the engine sounded louder at idle than any of our other recent vehicles. I had actually thought about having the dealership start up a few other 5.3s on the lot when I went to pick up my plates just to see if it was common throughout just like you did.

Yep I can here mine ticking from 25 yards away. My truck is a little higher up though so that is what I account it to. On the rough idle; has anyone that experienced this checked their plug wires? Mine would do this occasionally with no check engine lights or codes, didn't think anything about it because my 13 always had a rough idle. The #6 plug wire finally came the rest of the way off and I got a check engine light, no issues since i put it back on tight. Took it 5K miles to finally pop the rest of the way off though and give me a code. Just an idea.

My truck idles rough every once in a while; it happens more after a long drive (1hr drive) or after it has really warmed up. And yes, it has turned into an obsession. So, my question is, does the shim really work? Im thinking about taking my truck in to get it done. I called the dealership and they have heard of the bulletin and can get it done in one day. Thanks!

I had the bulletin done and it help quite a bit.... its not as bad as it was. Before my hand would shake along with the truck but now since it got better with the shimming i don't think about it. If that makes sense. It took them about an 2 and half to do i believe

Hi there I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the bulletin or bulletin number for this issue? I was at my dealer the other day and they said that the only bulletin about this issue is that it is normal and nothing should be done.

So if someone can point me towards a bulletin number that would help alot.

Thanks.

any one out there have an idea about the shim bulletin number ?

I tried looking for the paper work they gave me, but I couldn't find it. If you want, you can call Cecil Atkission in Kerrville tx. (830) 257-6121 ext 2. Ask for oscar or Kevin. They should be able to tell you. My name is Jason Janecka and I brought mine in in jan.

On other note, I have the 4.2 in non touchscreen display. Everytime I start up my truck, a warning comes up on it about (and I'm paraphrasing) Warning: taking yours eyes off the road for too long is dangerous. It won't automatically disappear, you HAVE to hit ok to to clear it off the screen. It annoying to have to do this EVERYTIME I drive somewhere. Does anyone have the 4.2 non touchscreen display? If so, does y'all's always show that warning?

I'll look at my paper work again. But I don't recall them giving me the number.

Jason,

Thank you for that information, I will call them today. I have also attached a video that shows the vibration at idle in my vehicle now that it is getting warmer here in Idaho the vibration is getting worse. Mine actually never shows a warning, but I have the larger screen.

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
