Wireless Charger in Center Console Lid

Does the qi charging work with a thin case on phone? I have an LG G3 with a supcase.

I took a different approach, I made myself a piece of cover and ran the USB to the USB in the arm rest, no drilling etc to original parts.

 

Tip: single coil is weak and hard to aim when charging my phone, might end up upgrading to a 3 coil setup

Got mine done and working flawless. However, I cutout a hole the size of the charger underneath after removing the rubber insert and pocket. It is double layered, so it doesn't go through the inside. Used a dremmel with cutoff wheel. Ran some double sided tape around the lip of my cutout and stuck the charger in the hole. Edges of the charger stick to tape around cutout securing it flush. Also, cut off the two center screw hole protrusions underneath pocket insert for clearance and reduced distance between phone and charger. Also, while the pocket was out, I inserted the rubber sleeve into it, flipped it over, and shaved off the rear guide flush with a razor blade. Otherwise, it would push up out of the pocket when screwed back in place due to hitting charger where void used to be. Doing all of this ensured the absolute minimal diatance between charger and phone. My LG G3 charges perfect with a supcase beetle on it.

My apologies for not having checked this board in a while.

 

I still use my charger daily, and it continues to work perfectly. The only challenge (unrelated to install) is I went from Samsung Note 3 to Samsung S5 which doesn't stay put as well. I've just developed the habit of reaching down and making sure it's placed all the way to the front of the tray.

I took inspiration from this thread and did the Nokia wireless charger this weekend. There were a few differences for my Silverado. First, I ordered the Nokia DT-901 Fatboy charger. Same as the DT-900 but was cheaper on ebay at $19.00. Second, the console is not the same on the Silverado. In order to remove the tray you have to remove the upper lid and 4 screws from underneath the plastic insert not on top like the GMC. After that trim down some molded locators on the tray and lid to allow the charger to sit more flush. Biggest difference here is that it was much easier to then tap into 12v outlet in front of console rather then rear passenger. Simply remove the screws holding in the cup holder area and tap into 12v outlet there. Put it back together and works great on my S6. 19 bucks and 30 minutes. Super easy!

How did you tap into the 12v?

No just used quick taps on 12v cigarette outlet. Charger cord has plenty of spare wire to reach.

I did mine quite similar to TexaSLT. Works great when the phone doesn't slide out of position. Need to find a case that isn't so slick.

My note 4 in a UAG case won't even fit in the flow through console lid or I'd do this for sure

Made a bit of progress, but not finished.

 

I have zeroed in on the Nokia DT-900 wireless charging pad. It has 3 coils and a substantially greater range that the previous. Here is a pic of the unit:

I took that case apart to allow for this unit to fit under the armrest tray (also adds range).

 

Here is the armrest tray with the mat removed. There are 6 star screws that need to be removed:

The charger just fits in the void between the tray and the lid:

I was able to replace 4 of the 6 screws. It's a REALLY snug fit. You will need to apply light pressure to each corner to get the screws in....you can see the charger through the two center holes:

Here is a pic of the mat back in. There is a very slight hump in the tray with the charger underneath. Not perfect, but looks good:

Next step is connecting power....The best thing about this charger is it runs off of 12v. So, my plan is to drill a small hole in the lid underneath the tray and fish the cord down through the lid hinge. I will then splice the power cord and tap into the accessory power port on the rear of the center console. From what I understand this port is also switched, so no concern of power drain while truck is off. (It's worth noting that Nokia uses a proprietary barrel size on this charger cord so universal kits won't work).

 

My question to everyone is: Has anyone successfully removed this port without damaging the console? If so, any advice/instructions/warnings? Pics would be tremendously helpful.

 

With this charger, you can place it inside the console itself so its hidden?

I have an S6 and would love to do the same thing. Right now my dock is mounted on top of the consoles rubber mat with the cord running straight down. I would like to get a new rubber and play the dock inside the console but this current dock doesn't have a strong enough single to do so. I can't find any docks for the S6 that have enough power for this.
