2000 miles on the truck: 14 city, 21 highway but highway is a small percentage and I have a short 7 mile commute to work with no highway. I expect to see 23-24 once on the highway long enough.

Lately in town cruising at 45-55 I have been getting 22 but highway I'll get about 20. Start having fun and it drops to 16

i get under 16mpg mixed driving city/hwy, 29 mile commute mainly for work, i don't drive much after that cause I have 3 vehicles that I swap out on the weekends.

I usually run 40-42PSI and get ~20.5 mpg in city with 6.2l. Been running pressures like this my whole life no problemo.

 

The majority of heat in a rolling tire is created by friction within the tire material itself as it deforms both in the sidewalls and the tread around the point it contacts the ground. The lower the pressure the more the tire deforms and the more heat is created. at lower pressures the heat generated puts the tire into its highest traction area quicker and also tends to raise the tires pressure till a heat/PSI equilibrium is reached ...Lets say +10% PSI or so lol.

 

Running higher pressures You will get less tire deformation so less friction loss as heat. The tire will tend to take longer to reach full traction temperature and may ride rougher. You may also get marginally better mileage as the frictional losses to heat are less.

 

Arguments about uneven tread wear in either condition are spurious as 4 tires with a few PSI +/- difference and a 5800lb truck on their backs are gonna ride flat tread where the rubber meets the road. And running lower pressures on large wheel/ low profile tires is a recipe for a bent rim on the first pothole you hit. A tire like any tool has minimums and maximums and will function anywhere within the design limits with trade-offs. Can anybody remember the Explorer/Firestone disaster? Hint: Recommended tire pressure. Heat is the enemy so IMO it is always safer to have more pressure under the maximum than less.

Lifetime at 8265 Miles shows 21.5 MPG. 5.3 and 3.42 gears. 2016 RCSB WT. Watching the tire pressure changes on the app or the dash monitor will make you dizzy. Not sold on the nitrogen fill.

Nitrogen is just another way for dealers to separate you from your money.

For mostly around town driving on winter blend gas, 14.5 ain't bad. That's about what I'm getting these days with a similar driving mix. Am impressed with seeing 22-23 on the open highway at 75mph.

My tires are filled with helium. Dealer said it makes the truck at least 300 lbs lighter which is great because I'm not sure what the weight capacity is for that bridge I bought is Brooklyn is :)

Lol! Got hydrogen in mine. Even lighter than helium!

If only knew that, i would have put helium in my front tires to balance out the weight of my plow. :thumbs:
