I have read every muffler swap, delete, topic, post, on this forum and have not found anything of anyone using a smaller case muffler (magna flow) and leaving the resonator and flapper in. Has any one done it or tried it before they cut out one or the other? Im currently looking at running Magnaflow 12259 18" with resonator and flapper or Magnaflow 12589 22" and resonator delete and keeping flapper in.

Would either of those setups achieve this:

NO drone/chopper

I dont want it too loud

quiet on cruise

nice low key rumble on start, idle, and getting after it

I know it's not what you ask, but I have Magnaflow 12259 flapper and resonator delete and I love it. My wife even says it's not loud enough!! I will try to post video later today. It will be with phone though so may not be that great of quality!

I have a similar setup- magnaflow, kept the flapper, side exit duals, deleted the resonator. Sounds good at start, sounds great when punched - not obnoxiously loud. Hardly noticeable at highway speed. A great system until the truck drops to V4. Sounds like crap then. I wouldn't call it a drone, but a definite difference can be heard.

Overall I'm ok with the sound. I am going to wire the flapper open and see what that does.

I have the 6.2l for reference.

no one?

I did muffler delete left everything else had the V4 sound put on a magnaflow still had it. Did every thing else you wanted but still had the V4 sound. I tuned out the V4 perfect after that. I tried everything if you don't want to do the tune or buy the expensive GM backed exhaust your going to have that sound. And that's a fact jack.

Thanks for the input guys. Right now i just did muffler delete and move resonator to muffler location and have the flapper clamped open. When it drops to V4 it isn't to bad. I just tried this as seeing so many people love the muffler delete. So i have my 18" Magnaflow at the house so in the coming weeks i think ill put that in the original muffler location and might just run 3" all the way to the tip and leave resonator out. If i dont like that then ill just throw the resonator in the factory spot and basically just run it factory besides the muffler.

    • Looking for help troubleshooting a metallic like front end rattle. Figured I’d see if anyone had thoughts before I schedule an appointment with the dealer.   The rattle is fairly loud and occurs primarily when the front driver side wheel hits a bump, even fairly minor road seams. Sometimes does it when the passenger hits a bump but I don’t believe when the rear hits. Rattle still occurs when foot is pressing brake peddle so I think that rules out the caliper rattle I’ve read about. I’ve also checked the running boards and they are tight.   Most noticeable at slow speeds.    Any insight is appreciated.
    • We try to make cruise the coast. It’s where our favorite casino is. I only want to spectate. Never took a car. Always had one to take. I belonged to a club once. Even when I used to drag raced. It was during test and tune. Probably because I’m not a night owl, party person.
    • We had a pretty big cars and coffee in Indy this past weekend.  Pretty much anything and everything was there.
    • Good looking Olds, and TRX!   I haven't been into car shows either. I'm probably not a convert but I did push myself this year to attend a few select events to challenge some assumptions and try to experience car-based social clubs in a different way. I joined up with the local Hagerty group for some cars/coffee events, group drives. A month ago I showed my '94 Camaro I rescued last fall at Radwood. Had a good time, but, there was some sitting around with the car and that's the part of shows I don't enjoy as much. I prefer to be a spectator, walk the show, grab a burger, go home.   Radwood was the only era-limited event, but where it had strict model year limitations, it made it up in variety. Having Jason Camissa there was also a hoot.   Where I see old 50's car shows, doo-wop and winga dinga music stuff fading out, same with "only" vintage muscle clubs, it seems to be the activity-based clubs/events which are gaining strong popularity. Places where all cars and interests come together.
