2016 Sierra SLT - USB iPod Issue

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Recently purchased a 2016 Sierra. I plugged the ipod in a couple days after and it worked fine. Go back to the audio menu to choose the iPod to play music and see it's no longer in the audio menu. All I see is one option, "AUX". I've tried everything. I turned the iPod on and off, I tried 3 different USB cables which I know work with the lightning power adapters. It disappeared from the audio options. I can however play the iPod on bluetooth but then I have to disconnect my phone, you can't have two devices connected simultaneously.

Any help, suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks to all in advance

Couple suggestions:

  • Have you tried an Apple brand cable? Some of those cheap dollar store cables are garbage.
  • Try rebooting your iPod.

I have problems with mine as well. My iPhone will play through bluetooth, but if I am trying to charge it with the USB port it will not allow me to play music through the USB port or bluetooth. IDK why it does this. It use to work then stopped a few months back. I have the Apple cable.

@Silverado Saver - Yes, two iPod factory cables that came with the iPods and my son's iPhone cable. It worked when I tried it once but that was it, hasn't worked since.

@ Silver 5.3 - The iPod does work on bluetooth but I don't want it there, I have my work phone synched up which is a droid and I don't have any music on it. It's used exclusively for communication.

SO it seems like we have the same issue. I have yet to find a solution. I have messed around with it a lot and tried numerous things and have yet to find a solution. Like I said, mine use to work then just stopped one day. I wonder if they updated my system or something and it messed with it.

When you say you wonder if they updated your system, does that mean intellilink automatically updates on the fly with some sort of phone home connection? Or did you have the truck in the shop recently and the techs might have done something?

Meaning the techs might have updated it. Intellilink I do not believe updates automatically. I mean it is possible for it to happen, but someone would have to foot that bill using all that data, so GM would rather do it manually when the truck comes into the shop.

I have good news. The wife read through the electronics manual and found there are confirmed issues with iPod's and mp3 players that are not up to date with firmware. Which means, I put my iPod on the computer, updated the firmware and voila, the media is discovered in the truck.

I plug my iPod into the white USB in the upper glove box and turn off Bluetooth. Then I paired my phone via Bluetooth and they both work.

I'll try that with my phone and see if it works.

Maybe I can save the day here. I’ve had this issue for many months. My iPhone used to work fine in either Bluetooth or cable mode as long as I hit the media button to select Bluetooth or iPod in my truck. Like all of you it stopped all the sudden. After looking through this post tonight I got the bright idea to try something other than Spotify or YouTube and BAM it worked. So my fix for this problem is using an Apple app ie Podcast or Music. Podcast was the fix for me. So I started a podcast on my iPhone with it plugged in and the truck on iPod mode. Once the podcast started playing through the speakers I closed and opened Spotify or YouTube and everything continues to work. If this doesn’t work for you I am sorry!
