Worth selling aluminum spare?

Never seen anyone running a set of spares and I don’t believe there is a center cap to fit them? and they are fugly... The 22” steel transport wheels are the “hot” ones they sell for ? ?. 

 

Originalwheels.com sells the factory steel spare for 85 and the aluminum (n86)for 175 so your right on your 100 (U.S. dollars anyway) guesstimate. Your clientele is going to be the guy missing his for whatever reason (theft, damaged,etc.) or a body shop rebuilding a rear hit truck. 

 

If it was me I’d pull the aluminum lean it up against the garage then go “test drive” a used one with the steel spare ( since your in ?? nobody will think anything of you climbing around under a truck) drive it home and swap them in the driveway. You get a steelie and the next lucky owner gets a free upgrade. But that’s how I roll...

That wheel is a normal spare from GM.  I think its a cab/box configuration.  Regular and extended cabs that I've seen typically have steel spares, crew cabs seem to be packing the aluminum ones.  Must be a weight or options thing?   

 

That being said, I don't see the big deal about not just leaving that wheel up there that you have already?  Why sell this just to buy another spare?  I'd leave it alone.

I’m going to jinx myself. I may have only had two flats in my life. Can’t even remember, spare tire the many vehicles I’ve owned in 40 years never gave a second thought. Amazing what people worry about.

So true. When I was a younger having a flat was almost a common occurrence and you were always prepared for a flat. So was a dead battery, every car had jumper cables. Things have improved so much we take it for granted. Heck most women and millennials would be stumped if they had to jump a car or change a flat!! We asked a 29 yr old male millennial at the office what he would do if he had a flat, he said "??? I don't know I'd call triple A" !!!!!! I'm only 55 and almost lost my mind as a man........

Worth it? Not to me, but if you can sell it, replace it, and come out on top then sure. I think it would be hard to sell 1 rim that doesn't match anything but who knows

Your co-worker is not much of a man IMO.  Have been pulling heavy trailers often for last couple of years and have had to change 3 tires during that time.  Thankfully only once was it on side of the road.  If I did not know how to I probably would have incurred a considerable financial loss.  My thoughts are be prepared and a few dollars are not worth it should you be in a situation where a fully functional spare tire and wheel are required.

Not sure if I should ask this here or start a new thread, but this thread did inspire my question...

 

I just installed 33" tires on my all four of my wheels... I'm assuming I can't use my stock spare wheel incase of a flat correct? Should I just take it out completely?

If you use the search button in the right upper corner there is all kinds of threads on this. Assuming you have the G80 locker best not to use it on the rear for more than a couple miles at slow speeds to avoid possible damage to the locker or place a front tire on the rear and spare on front. You can run it on the front in 2wd the truck pull to the side it’s on because it’s rotating faster. You can fit a taller tire in the factory spare location (up to a 35” I believe) so you can get a used tire the same height (width doesn’t necessarily matter on a temporary spare) mounted to your factory spare wheel.

10 months and 15k into my 2017 and to be honest, I have no idea about the type of spare I have.

I know it there, but I've never really looked it it! LOL!
