Vacuum Pump Replacement/Diagnosis

Your engine creates NO vacuum when it shuts down 4 cylinders valves in V4 mode and bad things start happening to the PCV valve system and vacuum system. 4 cylinders with closed valves compressing air with nowhere to go except the PCV valve system into the intake...loss of vacuum....yum yum...engine starts eating oil sucked up thru valve cover breather pipes to intake.

 

Corvettes run ELECTRIC vacuum pumps. That’s for smart people.

 

Smarter people disable V4 mode and run a conventional vacuum line...delete vacuum pump. $20.

I’m intrigued by this idea.  Do you have some references or a how to where others have actually done this on a K2?

 

I can find post a about disabling AFM all day long, but I’m coming up empty looking for replacement of the vacuum pump by disabling AFM and running a traditional vacuum line.

You need to find out for yourself WHY these engines need mechanical vacuum pumps now.

 

Old big block muscle cars with crazy high lifts cams used to need vacuum bottles for the power brakes to store vacuum since they produced so little.....why do you need a mechanical vacuum pump?

 

Why does it share oil with the motor and grenade right after warranty and take your long block out?

I checked out the vacuum pumps Ford and VW use. The internal parts look nearly identical to this. Same plastic parts and principle design. The only difference is that they bolt to the head and it's driven by one of the camshafts. Still lubricated by engine oil. On the F-150's it's mounted on the backside of the head and makes it a bit of a PITA to reach.

heres a weird one. I was searching for videos on google and it came up with this thread. My new body 19 makes the EXACT same noise, but the new custom Silverado has almost the same engine minus the vacuum pump. Vacuum is now electronic but the truck still makes the noise. Truck only has 1000 miles. GM  wants to see more break in miles before the start investigating. Dealer strongly feels is not an internal problem. Mine only does it on cold start and after the RPMS drop down from warming up.

As far as I know, it's just required on the Ecoboost engines.

The 2019 trucks don't use vacuum of any kind. The brake system on those trucks use a totally new brake system.

Anyone know how to tell if you have updated pump? Wondering if my 2018 has the updated design? Build 12/2017

Answering my own question. 

 

If your vacuum pump has a black cover and is not one piece cast, you have the new updated pump. 

 

Im took a pic of the back of my 2018 pump. Part number 12669488

Had my vacuum pump replaced yesterday, 42k miles. Much quieter pump. Took them 45 minutes from lift to finish.
