I did not want to be the first to post in this section, however here I am. I took my truck to get an xpel and ceramic coat quote and lone and behold we found some paint defects. The worst being the hood. It looks like there was either dirt in the paint, a run or both on the front of the hood. Second is multiple areas where the bed liner material was over sprayed onto the bed side.

I dropped it it off to the dealer yesterday, the entire hood is being repainted and the bed liner material is being removed.

Having the hood hood repainted one week after ownership isn’t exactly ideal, but may be a blessing. The factory clear coat is now water based, which is soft. There is a good chance that the repainted hood will have a harder finish.

Any pictures of the bed liner problem?
How the heck do they remove the spray in bed liner?

Sorry for your troubles CJ.  Hope they match the paint well on your Trail Boss.

As for removing spray liner overspray a clay bar may do the job if not too thick.  Otherwise one could use gasoline on a cloth to lightly rub out the material.

Either way it will be necessary to apply a paint sealant or wax afterwards.

I don’t have pics but fortunately the bed liner doesn’t stick well to an un-prepped area. It comes off pretty easy.

Factory paint has been water based since at least 2005 ish +/-, you can thank Democrat tree huggers / the EPA but, we probably saved some endangered gnats or horse flies by making the switch to water based, it's better than it was when it first came out... The paint they use to repair will be the same stuff used at the factory....

Water based clear coat?

Sheesh..... is that durable?

It's much better now than it was when they switched in the mid 2000's... I had an 08 Civic that was pathetic...

Yep, they are using PPG Waterborne clear coat.

No it’s not, especially with black. Ceramic coating really makes a difference though. It adds a level of hardness that the clear coat lacks.

Which ceramic coating are you going with?

cQuartz Professional, by car Pro. I’m having the Xpel PPF installed on the hood and bumper as well.

The paint defect/hood saga continues. The sent the truck out to have the hood painted and the end product didn’t go very well. Rather than send it out again my dealer is going to pull a hood off of one of the three black trucks in stock.

This is where it gets interesting. Each of the black trucks seem to have a blem on the drivers side front of the hood. Almost like where the hood was hung when it was sprayed at the factory. None of the other colors on the lot have this blem, just the black.

There is one of the three that the blem is minimal and isn’t visible. I was there after hours so I haven’t brought this finding to the dealerships attention yet. I’m courious to how this will play out.

Man Chuck...

Im sorry to hear about your troubles and hope you have resolution soon!

There have been others who special ordered new 2019 trucks and they were pulled for QC

issues. The new RAMS have also had several QC problems.

    • Thanks, all. It sounds like keeping the software "as is" is the best course of action.
    • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overengineering   Excerpt from the above link: (BTW the above is a 90 second read)   [Quote]   A story about very precise engineering is given in the 1858 story The Deacon's Masterpiece or, the Wonderful "One-hoss Shay": A Logical Story by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., which tells of a carriage (one-horse shay) Because it had been engineered so that no single piece failed first – no piece was over-engineered relative to the others, and they thus all collapsed at the same time. A similar quote by Ferdinand Porsche claimed "the perfect race car crosses the finish line in first place and immediately falls into pieces."[5]   [End Quote}   By Engineering's  own definition then; the AFM and Torque Converters, 4-5-6 clutch assembly of the 6L80E, and a dozen other common chronic parts and systems failures are "UNDER ENGINEERED". And by their own definition done so with INTENT. Ya can't have it both ways OEM's.

    • I was in Utah this week attempting a bow hunt in the Wasatch mountains with friends.  On the evening of the first hunt, making my way across a ridge to a friends camp, the upper control arm on the driver's side separated, the CV axle got trashed, and the wheel was dang near at a 45 degree angle to the ground.  I was able to get it towed off the mountain and into town about 3:00 am, and spent the remainder of the night in an O'Reilly's parking lot.  Luckily, there was a Chevrolet dealership not to far away so I was able to get to the dealership and pick up a new CV and UCA.  It would have been a few days before they could have gotten to the truck and I brought tools with me on hunt since it was a two day drive to get there, so I did the repairs myself in the O'Reilly's parking lot.      What's interesting is that the UCA ball joint didn't break, it just popped out of the bottom of the UCA.  There was VERY LITTLE evidence of grease on the ball joint or in the socket, and you could see where the ball joint had warbled out part of the socket over time.  I guess that's what happens over 186K miles of use :)   Big Kudos to O'Reilly's for letting me work on the truck in their parking lot.  However, they made a $150+ off of me from the purchase of various tools, so I guess it was in their best interest anyways :)   Getting towed off the mountain.   UCA Ball Joint Socket   Trashed CV   Suspension disconnected and UCA and CV Removed   New UCA and CV installed with the suspension buttoned up.
    • My family still laughs at me when they see me drive up in the minivan. Same with less than a V-8 truck. It helps that I have choices. I don’t think I could only have a minivan as the one and only vehicle as much as I like it. And I wouldn’t pass up a good buy on an older V-8 reg cab GM truck. Could you live Raven as the only ride?
