Well 1 day short of 6 months and just shy of 7k miles later I'm back!

Noticed a very small leak in the same spot after the dealer did an oil change and washed it, only a few drops but its there, walked back inside and sent them the pictures, they said they will put in the request for a new window and let me take the truck home, I text the advisor and requested a new fixed window instead of that stupid fricken slider, they said it shouldnt be a problem as far as they know and the service manager will call someone monday morning to get the window approved.

I'm not interested in the sealer or a slider, so fingers crossed they say yes, honestly I will pay a glass shop to replace the window with the non slider if needed. And to top it off its gonna rain all week, yay, towels in place. Also it is noteworthy to mention that there are 9 cracks and GM refused the replacement round 1. I love this truck so much more then my '18 F150 that Ford bought back as a lemon and dont want to go down that road over something so fricken simple to fix.

I want to smack the crap out of whatever engineer thought it was a good idea to put the plastic slider rail between the glass seal and the body, make it a separtate assembly inside the glass!

Also I looked up the parts online and the slider is not orderable, hopefully that means I get solid glass!

Dealer called and said that GM will replace the window…with a fricken slider. They said that the person at GM the talked to have some bs rant about how vehicles are to be repaired to the condition the left the assembly line in blah blah blah.

Quoted 625 for solid glass, wtf?

private glass shop quoted 395 and safelite 479.
private shop wants to water test it to verify that’s where the leak is, I have not replicated it since so I told them to replace it if they replicate it and it leaks or they can’t replicate it, unless the leak is found to be some where else then to the dealer it goes, also told them the nuts are one time use for the spoiler.

Truck goes Wednesday to get tested/new glass if needed.

I really hate that they force a slider down your throat to get the convenience 2 package, and they can’t even fricken remove it for a cheaper window. Ridiculous, it should be a separate option imo

I didn't figure GM was going to let the dealer replace it with a solid glass. Most of the time you have to pay for it yourself. If the glass shop is good you don't have to remove the spoiler to replace the window. I had my window replaced in January and the spoiler was not touched.

What year are these trucks that keep popping up lately I know that 19 and 20s had the issue the most. Are the more recent 21s and the 2500 22s have these issues yet that anyone is aware of?

I would look for a dealer now.  Leaks don’t just go away.  They may be small enough that you don’t notice while that just a little water does more damage.

Yeah you are right.  Its shocking as the truck has been subject to far heavier rains with no issues until just now.  Not looking forward to what has to happen next.

Is there an updated TSB to reference that has the newly designed parts?  Or is Bulletin No.: 18-NA-383 still the right one to reference?

For the record, I just settled a buyback after the 4th repair failed.

Good luck!

Dealer tried the TSB fix of adding a bunch of sealant to the top of the glass…it did not work. What is the next step without reading over 200 pages on this thread? Thanks.

New window also check your headliner for water marks before they replace the window and make sure that they use new crush washers since they are a one time use for the ones used on the spoiler

Bought a used (CPO) 2019 Sierra 1500 SLT in September. Three days later, washed it and noticed the crack and leak in the slider frame and the upper corner of the driver's side. Got ahold of my sales guy and got the run around for a month (honestly think it was just to pass the 30 day money back guarantee) on whether or not it was being covered by the dealership. I stopped by prior to this and wanted to see what the service department would say. They ended up charging me for a leak test that obviously did not need to be performed...

It all ended up being sorted out on the 1st of November; dealership confirmed they would be covering it and ordered the new window (part # 84944319) the week prior. 50% good will of the dealer, 50% from GM and they refunded me for the leak test. A headache of an experience, especially after trading in my old Silverado WT into a nicer truck with a fairly major body issue. Let's hope this new window design stays dry and crack-free. Props to the sales department; they were the only ones who actually got the ball rolling.

Judging by the photos of the refresh, they finally redesigned the rear windshield. Hope the new owners won't have to deal with this!

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled. Long after. 😬   https://www.enginelabs.com/news/tech-tips-replacing-ls-active-fuel-management-lifters-with-melling/   The Gen5 lifters operate the same as the LS versions. In fact they are the same lifter.    https://www.enginelabs.com/tech-stories/sorting-out-gen-v-lt-lifter-failure-with-a-simple-valvetrain-fix/
    • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
