Rear window leak

Hey Guys. I’m back after the last replacement window lasted almost 1 yr before it’s leaking again. To recap my issues  bought on Halloween of 2019. 20 days later noticed huge stain on headliner and water on back seat headrest. Throes the caulking job 3 times before demanding a window and headliner replacement.  Took 80 some day to get the window and headliner in during which time I was put into a loaner Malibu(we called it the malirado). That lasted 5-6 months before it leaked again and they replaced the window within 4 days. It’s been almost 1 year and now window #3 is leaking and the dealership told me Friday I the phone that I’ve got a factory defect and I should sell the truck and get another. GM Executive customer service has been horrible to deal with. Never calling back and claiming to have spoken with dealership and the dealership doesn’t hear from them. I’m taking it in on Monday so we’ll see what kind of mess this one turns into.

Sorry to hear all the trouble everyone is having.  I had a '16 that leaked from the XM radio antenna and then the high mount rear stop light.  I just upgraded to a '21.  Will be watching for the leak.

For those getting work done, are they cleaning up the headliner and interior to clear watermarks and make sure no mold?

Rode back out to the dealership to get my pistol I forgot in the truck and a wahoo fillet I left in the cooler after a weekend fishing trip. Found my truck sitting outside in the rain. I’ll ride back by today and see if they left it outside overnight or not.

So a little update. The truck has been up at the dealership about 7-8 times and the past few times I haven't even taken it home due to it still not being fixed and same for today went to pick it up while it was raining and had water coming in so had to leave it there again and take the same little buick suv home again. At this point they have replaced the spoiler 2-3 times the headliner has been replaced the window have been revealed countless times. Opened a claim with GM and they are basically useless. At this point I don't think it's fixable it's really disappointing

Picked up my truck today from getting the rear window replaced and the seam sealer applied to the new window. Dealer did a good job. I haven't noticed anything messed up. Now to see how long it lasts without leaking. I did however notice that this window is not tinted as dark as the original. Original was 18.5% and this one says 22%. Can't really visually see it. Was curious if anyone that had theirs replaced had the same thing? I wasn't aware they made them in different tint percentages.

I’m in the same boat so to speak. I received a call from GM Executive care and they are telling me that they have to replace the window again for a fourth time before they will entertain a buyback.  The lady I’m talking to is leaps ahead of the last three I’ve had. I told her that this was ridiculous and that I would just take it back and expect another truck next time. Three windows have failed and this one will too.  She touted a new redesign of the rear window but that’s the one that’s in it now. We’ll see how long it goes before I take it back for leaking window #4.

Got mine back from the dealership and there was visible excess caulking pushing out all around the glass and on the paint.  I was furious.  They kept the truck for an additional week+ and installed a new rear window.  In the process, they scratched the hell out of my paint beneath the rear window so it went to the body shop to be repainted.   The truck is back and doesn't leak, but the paint job was sub par enough to where I can notice the errors but the body shop cant.  Not happy, but as long as the truck isn't leaking I can deal with it.

That's the real problem with issues like this not being fixed, this has been a problem on three model year trucks now.  The real issue is we're seeing a lot of people getting sub-par repairs, paint damage etc.   Plus after a while there's only so much you can go back to the dealer and complain about.  It's like sending a meal back at a restaurant, you don't want to do it more than once, if you do you don't want to eat what they replace it with.

My guess is it's simply cost cutting, GM hopes that slathering a $12 tube of sealant on it holds it till you are past 3/36, because after that, it's your $ to fix it, not theirs.   "Normal Operation" has become the new cop-out for GM.   GM is earning that least reliable vehicle "award" that Consumer Reports gave them last year, I'd imagine they'll be a repeat winner this year as well.

It’s leaking behind the corner Trim pillars. With the latest window I had that’s where they moved the weak part to. I found it leaking on mine from The stained headliner and had water on the lower part of the window frame and top of the seat back.

They are now replacing the carpet in the truck and the window is still leaking it seems like they just do things backwards at GM. And I found the window leaking when it was raining the whole lower slider track had water in it with the slider closed. I will have to look for more when if I get the truck back this time

Well, add me to the list.  My truck is a 2020 Sierra SLT 6.2 crew cab with 23,000 miles (purchased in February, 2020).  I dropped if off at the dealership this morning for the first round of attempting to seal the back glass.  Fingers crossed for no scratched trim pieces.  My OCD won't be able to take it.

Anybody get there leaky sliding window replaced with a fixed window?

GM will not replace the slider with a solid window but you can do it on your own.
