Rear window leak

Wow this thread it super depressing. If I was y’all I’d just go for the solid widow replacement option. I had the opening window in my 2016 but, don’t miss it a bit on my 2020.

The thought that we should eve have to change the sliding rear window for a solid one is ridiculous. I have not used the slider in mine but I still would easily give it up. What about resale value? I personally have just had my first (and hopefully last) repair. I waited a month for a replacement glass. If it continues to leak I will look at trading it in.

I'm going to let them replace the window first and if it leaks again I'm going to try that tube caulk that someone posted on here. I've already contacted the company for a sample box and if I like it I will just slide that into the gap of the spoiler so no water even gets to the glass.

As one who has had a leaky rear window for about a year now, I really do enjoy the benefits of opening the rear slider during these beautiful fall days we're having here in Texas. I'm glad to have the slider, even if it still drips sometimes when it rains.

I just took my 2019 in for a rear window leak. They told me it was the high mount stop light. They resealed and will check it tomorrow. (I know i have seen this mentioned before, but didn't want to go through 19 pages of posts as my computer is very slow loading). Anybody think there is a chance that this is the cause. Dealer said there was a TSB on it. Just curious what you guys think.

Very unlikely it’s just the spoiler or brake light leaking, IMO.

If those were common areas of leaks, how come nobody in 169 pages has had those leaks with a solid rear window truck? They all have the spoiler, but somehow only trucks with the slider make it into this thread. Says it all, right?

Not aware of any TSB aside from the one telling them to caulk your window frame.

Every time someone new comes to this thread it seems like the same story. "window leaking, dealer said it's the brake light, nothing to worry about, we'll reseal it, move along"

Does it not seam odd that GM is telling dealers to tell customers it is just the "spoiler" or "3rd brake light" or "window seal" to de-escalate fears or attempt to calm customers AND not admit that the window frames are actually cracking. Even if you look at all the service orders when they do the repair, it says "found window leaking, sealed or replaced window per TSB". They won't put the words "cracked window frame" in the receipt they give you. Why? We have seen these cracks in this thread. They have either found no way to stop it or refuse to look into it. It doesn't take over two years to solve why a plastic item is cracking if you wanted to solve it. If someone can prove this wrong or if GM was willing to be transparent about it, I will happily eat crow. But it has been two years. Everything @OnTheReel said is accurate.

Don't take my words above as me hating on GM. I love my truck sans the leaking issue. Just be honest and transparent, it is not hard. It is what we teach our children.

Yeah, he's blowing smoke up your tailpipe to be honest. Like the previous people have said a lot better than I can.. it's the window frame and GMC for some reason or another just isn't owning up to it. I'm right now emailing the person I've emailed and talked to on the phone what my service was just like and what is happening and I am sure going to mention this to them as well.

When you go back to the truck, be the biggest pain in the ass you can muster up and check every little inch to make sure they didn't mess anything up like scratches in the plastic trim on the inside pillars, happened to me, or scratches in the paint.

Be very diligent!

Thanks, econometrics and onthereel. I hadn't recalled that resealing the spoiler or stoplamp had actually fixed it for anyone.

169 pages is a lot of reading...I see a lot of theories and guesses about the source of the leak. If you're confused by your dealership your service department isn't communicating well or they don't know or don't care. It's simply a poor design of the window frame, you did nothing wrong by driving normally and you can't prevent it by avoiding hot or cold weather or opening your window. There is a long, thin, flat and hard piece of plastic which is the "setting channel" for the window to body adhesive. It's too long and is not designed properly for thermal expansion and it cracks in the weakest spots on the top corners. It hasn't been fixed. Case closed. Can we sticky my photos or my detailed posts about removing the sliding window and installing solid rear glass?
