LTZ Plus Package vs LTZ Premium opinions please

New member here everyone. I need some opinions. I’m about to buy a 2019 Silverado 1500 LTZ crew cab Z-71 short bed. I can’t decide between the 2 packages. The plus package has just about all I would ever need. But. The premium package truck also has the technology package which is kinda neat. The price difference is around $2400 between the trucks. My worry is all the extra electronic extras which are nice to have will malfunction over time and it will cost a small fortune to fix. Which would you get? And why? Thank you.

For me I wanted the extras.  Anymore these trucks are rolling computers and issues are going to happen even in the base model trucks for the most part.  It seems there are updates being downloaded all the time and it is just something we are going to have to get use to it.  Hopefully in time things will work out better.  Kind of like Windows.  Windows 95 was OK, then came 98 and so finally Windows 10 seems to be the most stable, at least for me it is.

Hopefully future vehicles will be the same way.  It isn't so much the mechanics will go bad but what controls them with simple glitches.

So getting what you want would be the most important thing. Especially for the price we pay now for these trucks.

You’re already looking at a pretty expensive truck, so assuming your budget allows that small percentage more, I’d get the premium for sure.

Bose stereo (non-Bose one sounds hideous), navigation, added safety features, cool technology, all worth it. You cannot add those missing goodies later for that price difference; some cannot be added for any price.

The forum and FB groups are full of people who thought they’d be happy without something, but once the newness wears off they here are spending way more to add missing options a la carte than the whole package would cost when buying new...not to mention all the effort involved.

Mine is equipped like the premium with tech package you are looking at. None of these added features have been cause for any dealer visits over the course of 10 months. None have been subject to any major bugs at all. No regrets.

If you ever though you wanted it you do. I bought my 17 off the lot something I just don't do but I was in need of truck right now. I bought what they had and told myself it would be good enough. It's not now I'm in the process of ordering a 2020 and I'm sure going to take a beat down on my 17. One dealer offered me $29000 no way I can take that. I don't want the LTZ I want a RST but loaded. I want black on black on black no chrome.

If you want it get it Don't do like I did.

always buy interior options you want, cuz most likely you cant later...now buying an AT4 or TB is something I wouldn't do ..I can put way better lift and suspension on truck for far far less money.....but interior options are hard and sometimes not even doable or crazy expensive

ranchos suck imo….guess you get 2 spd transfer case tho if you need it but there is way better suspension out there

Go for the upgraded premium package. And it always works out cheaper to buy one off the lot where the dealer is paying monthly fees to keep it there against none for one on order, plus if your order is delayed and current rebates expire......you're SOL. Plus you can test drive and examine for flaws in paint and choose the pick of the litter from those already on the lot.

I always buy off the lot without regret and get a better deal than one I would have to order....trick is to go to a dealer with a large inventory and buy one with more options including your must haves.....and usually works out cheaper than one you would order and wait and wait while rebates expire. Through the years as you enjoy those extra options that you would not have originally ordered....instead of regret for going cheap and not originally ordering, you'll say: "That's-a-nice"!

I still can't believe backup sensors didn't come with my LTZ when they were on my last two LT's. I wish i would have paid more attention  when ordering. I miss that feature.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
