I have a 2020 Sierra HD AT4 3500 SRW Duramax built 1/29/20.  It does not have active aero shutters in front of radiator - looks like it has the holes for each shutter, but no shutter.  Didn't really think about it until watching a YouTube duramax channel with a grille off a 2020 and there were active aero shutters.  I have no codes so I wonder if this was intentional from factory?

Do others have (or not) these active aero shutters shutters on their 2020 L5Ps?

I might be on to something.

Just ran two different diesel AT4 1 ton SRW crew cab VINs to get their builds.  One truck had RPO code WMI active shutters, the other truck did not.  The one option package that stood out on the truck that didn't have WMI?  VYU plow prep.

I ran some more gas and diesel VINs, with and without plow prep, 2500 and 3500.  VYU plow prep is the deciding factor on shutters or not on HD trucks, gas or diesel, just like on 1500s.

So, if you don't have or don't want active grille shutters, get VYU plow prep.  Gas or diesel.

That's a conundrum  for sure.  I can't imagine why engineers would put shutters in front of that giant charge air cooler and radiator.  As I stated above, my 2020 LTZ 2500HD does not have shutters.  I can see where the shutters would fit into the front grill work for gasoline powered trucks but I didn't think any diesels had them.   It will be interesting to find out what the thinking is on them.

See my post above.  Not all gas engines have them either.... ?

Looks like we have a winner!   Thank you.

Starting to make sense.  Mine does have plow prep and no shutters.  Good detective work!

Could it be build date?  My DRW was built in January 2020.  Or maybe they just ran short on parts...I found this at GM Authority - states the the shutters were "expected" on the 2020 HD's. https://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/general-motors-technology/gm-aerodynamics-technology/gm-active-aero-shutters-technology/

I had some built after OPs truck  (so Feb build) and some before Jan 2020 and what I found was consistent with the whole plow prep deal.

I also checked dually VINs this morning, no dually trucks get the shutters with or without plow prep.

I was thinking that might be the case. I wonder if it is to ensure 100% airflow for cooling on the DRW and plow preppers due to weight and tow capacity.

I have 2020 GMC 2500 gas with shutters.

I have the build sheet, no snow plow prep.  Build date was 1/30/20.  I do not find the aero shutter option mentioned above on the build sheet.  Tow pkg, 10k gvwr

I have a 2020 3500 Duramax 4x4 Z71, build date 6/20 and my truck does have the Automatic grill shutters.  This truck also has the Camper/snowplow package installed as well.

I wonder if the colder climates get the shutters???  Or if it has something to do with CA emissions.

2020 chev 2500hd with duramax have the auto shutters wanted to put on bug screens this summer was told they are not available and not recommended because of the shutters has anyone else run in to this or has anyone put on bug screens with the shutters on. Truck came with a winter front which seems okay to put on truck in winter but not supposed to restrict airflow in summer.
