HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit

Well I feel dumb now. I just found out why I wasn't able to find the bulb for my truck. Turns out the Denali's have LED's and apparently you can't change them the dealership told me.

Why wouldn’t you be able to change them? It should be just the bulb that’s different.

That's what I thought. But buddy on the phone want very friendly/helpful too be quite honest. It was like I was catching him at a bar time and he just wanted of the phone lol.

 

He said it comes as one unit. That sounds like upselling to me. But before I had a chance to ask him he hung up on me haha

I think he just didn’t want to help you on this matter. The bulb should be different and that’s it. Unless the LEDs have a different housing all together. Maybe someone who has them will chime in and clear things up.

I just installed a set of the GTR Ultra 2 LED bulbs into my OEM projectors in my 2015 GMC Sierra.  install was less then 30 minutes but did need the PWM interface module to make them work.  So far, i'm pleased and at least now I can tell that the headlights on and I can see light on the road.  They are definitely not as bright as my buddy's 2018 GMC OEM lights FWIW.  I still have the HID kit from fastheadlights as well, just never got around to installing them and they have never been out of the box.

one of those mods that never gets old. Still love my headlights 2 years later.

I just installed LasFit D5S LED's in my 2016 Silverado. Not exactly a retrofit, but it improves the OEM headlights DRASTICALLY. Check out my install video and comparison shots at the end. These are pretty cool, they come with a custom dust cover with a built in fan. The LED driver on the bulb also has a fan, so the two fans combined keep the inside of the headlight temps cooler.

I just installed Ultra2 led bulbs in my 2014 Silverado with projector headlights trouble is that they flicker and shut off. What is this PWM module and what is involved in the install. I like the lights when they work, any help would be welcomed.

It is a simple box that plugs in between the bulb and harness. Plug and play. Should have come with the bulbs. Contact the seller and see if they will send the modules to you for free. Mine have been flawless for almost five months now.

We do realize that the thread title is HID headlights don’t we? Not trying to be picky but LED should be elsewhere.

Does it hurt not to get the aftermarket projectors?  I'm looking to buy this setup

I really like the setup of the Hylux ballast. It's a little bulky but it has good wire lengths and is very easily mountable vs the morimoto. I really like that in the event of a part failure, troubleshooting is very easy instead of swapping part after part side to side. Well constructed and simple.

 

The Morimoto bulbs though, Jesus. Keep reading, this is important.

 

The bulbs fit well. The lengths were acceptable. The connectors though are another story. One side clipped right in, one side I had to depin and pull the terminal seals back, reseat them into the connector, make the connection then force the seals back in. One side had incorrect polarity, so I had to switch the pins On my original Morimoto bulbs, one was correct, one was not as well. 

 

In closing, very happy with the Hylux setup but I will avidly do what I can to no longer have Morimoto products in this truck or any other vehicle I work on. You're paying extra for nice packaging and that's literally it.

I’d keep the factory projectors and just add the HID kit. Works just fine with no issues at all. You will be amazed at the difference.

I pulled the trigger on them.  The factory lights are a vast difference coming from a 19 Texas edition to 14 high country

a word of caution when putting hids in oem projectors, i did  this 4 years ago and in the last year i noticed that my lights just sucked. i just installed 2014/15 (style) Chevy Silverado Morimoto D2S 5.0 retrofit kit with Hylux Ballasts. when i removed the old projectors i noticed all the chrome in the light bowl had faded out and were not shiny chrome any more, which leads me to believe that the heat from the hids destroyed the chrome finish
