LOL.. Maybe quite possibly yes. I know of one thing that absolutely reduces the resonance in the cabin of these trucks. To the point that below highway speeds, it's just the rubbery tire noise, a little wind and the occasional interior rattle that previously was covered up by the resonance.

 

My truck is at the dealer right now (with none of these "fixes" in place) I am waiting to see how it goes with them first. It's the expensive parts I am not willing to cover the cost of. They are currently looking at the ring gear as the source of the vibrations. It was sold to me with 1.25qts of dif fluid, so sad things have been going on in there for 9500 miles. I am unable to do too much more until they have the $$$ parts out of the way.

Does anyone mind sharing what normal pico readings should be? Or can anyone share what their readings that resulted in a buy back? Thanks

I've got a novel idea, Howz about all you jagoffs that traded your GM product for a Jap or Mopar truck go troll somewhere else. There must be multiple web sites where you can beat your chest and spout your rhetoric about how bad the GM trucks are and how good the Jap and or Mopar and of Ford trucks are. Quit trolling! I had two 2015's and now a 2016 and they all were, and still are, fantastic!

 

I've had 2 15's both vibrated, driven 2 more, one of them vibrated, I think the 1-3 % is a fantasy. And I don't work for a car company.

Shimming motor mounts, replacing my transmission and replacing a tire with a high Road Force number seems to have resolved most of my vibration issues. I still need to get it on the highway for some extended testing though.

I'm new to this forum...on many others though.

 

Got this in response to a question I asked my dealer and it came from the Product Mgr for the Silverado/Sierra @ GM:

 

 

Since we launched this current generation of PU in 14MY we have had a mix of AL or cast iron front control arms. It is based on the total mass of the truck and has varied as to which models have received AL based on the need to control mass to keep trucks in specific test weight groups. The 16MY started this same way, but is changing very soon (in the next month or so) to 100% stamped steel control arms. The mass will be between the AL and cast iron versions. Please note a key driver for this change is an improvement in reducing the truck’s sensitivity to vibration inputs from wheels/tires.
FYI.... have a 2016 Sierra All Terrain 6.2L - with steel control arms, have had no vibrations pre/post level. Truck was lowered in the rear to level with shackles and removing the blocks.

 

 

 

And if that is in fact the root cause wouldn't the steel control arms be a direct replacement for the aluminum version? If so that would be GREAT news, I really hope it does resolve this issue for all of you. Except the guy in TENN, i hope his keeps vibrating :ughdance:

I have non aluminum control arms and my steering wheel is as smooth as can be, but the seat and console vibes are definitely there. Hopefully this could be a fix for those of you experiencing the steering wheel vibes.

thats very unfortunate... I have both, so it sounds like it isn't the fix to fix all.

Well the response I got from the dealer yesterday when I had my truck in was the standard. Tech felt the vibration when I took him on a test drive, but they couldn't find anything. No data to go on. Rang the GM mechanic line and they were told there's no known problem, which is just a joke since so many on here have issue numbers (or whatever they're called) with GM. Anyway I told him, GM does know about it and is ignoring it and that you just have to search the web to find hundreds of references to the issue. Also told him about the AutoGuide article coming out. So driving it home last night, it actually felt worse, so I'll be contacting them again.

Hey guys.

 

I have a 2015 Regular cab 2wd V8 with 12k miles, i too, had the dreaded vibrations, they were so bad that i couldn't put anything on my center console (bottles would rattle all around, and my cellphone or anything else would even jump out of the console).

 

My dealer aligned the truck, balanced it, with no success.

 

Anyways, i recently installed a set of Fox 2.0 shocks to level the truck, and guess what? vibration is gone, completely GONE. i think at this point it might have had something to do with the pinion angle or driveshaft.

 

Not saying everyone to go out and change shocks, but it's what fixed it for me.

Just a random thought, has anyone done a truck up like the Rocky Ridge custom ones? upgraded rear shocks and struts, upgraded coil over shock fronts, the Rocky Ridge Cross Members etc?

EDIT: before I get yelled at to go read back, I am specifically referring to the previously mentioned upgrades, I know numerous people have done lift/ leveling kits, oversized tires etc. but I can't recall if anyone has done the other upgrades and had any resolution... other than the one guy earlier today who upgraded to FOX shocks and says it is fixed.

I am beginning to wonder if this is a transmission and engine driveline issue. My transmission was replaced under PI1450 (snap, pop, clunk on launch) and the motor mounts were shimmed for the vibration at idle. My vibration appears to be gone at lower speeds. I have a business trip later this week and I will get to test it at highway speeds between 60-75 mph. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

don't forget to go up to 80mph... the worst for many people is 76mph

76 mph would be 13.8 Hz 1st order tire, 41.4 Hz 3rd order tire, 47.2 1st order prop shaft, and 31.5 Hz 1st order 6th gear carrier bearing. I will check for the vibration and if present take some picoscope readings. Thanks.

    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
