GM sending dealers wrong sized Polished Exhaust Tips for Denali's

Every 2014 Denali comes with : VQZ: LPO - Polished Exhaust TIp which I didn't even realize I was missing until another member contacted me about this issue.

 

I contacted my dealership and said hey I am missing my VQZ: LPO - Polished Exhaust TIp. They said, oh yeah GM sent is a couple for the Denali's as they were not ready when they were built (which is silly).

So I figured, no big deal and I just picked it up and planned on putting on when I got home. The part/box even had my VIN number on it and part number was 22911703.

 

WELL, apparently GM forgot they put a 3" outlet on the 6.2L engines instead of the 3.5" which is on all the 2014 5.3L (EDIT - sounds like previous 2010-2013 Denali's had the 3.5" exhaust) and the 2014 5.3L are still 3 or less in circumference.

The other member said the dealer told him the VQZ: LPO - Polished Exhaust TIp are on backorder for the Denali's and GM sent wrong ones.

i am still waiting for a response from my dealer and currently have nice $90 exhaust tip for all the silverado/sierras with 5.3L but I assume I will have to return it .

 

1) Anybody else in same boat?

2) Please don't ask me why the tailpipe on a 6.2L is smaller then on a 5.3L , I am not a GM engineer but have some guesses:

* heard something to do with back pressure and the larger pistons used when in 4 cylinder mode.

* they ran out of 3.5" piping? ;)

* they suppose to have 3.5" and will have a recall on this?

If I may clean up your information slightly.

 

The 6.2 was (2010-2013) produced with 3.5" exhaust. The tip that was being sent was for those year trucks not the new ones, but they were shipping with them for whatever reason.

 

The new 6.2 has 3" exhaust, in which the new tip part # 23435023 will fit it. These are being limited on availability for retail and will only be sent out for existing trucks that have the tip as an LPO option.

 

The 5.3 does not have 3.5" exhaust. Its either 2.75" or 3", but I haven't measured one yet...

thanks @newdude, I updated my OP to prevent giving incorrect info. Would be nice to know the Engineering reasons why they decreased the exhaust by about 15% from the previous years.

Exhaust velocity is more important than volume because they need it to flow through all the extra stuff on the exhaust now would be my assumption.

This is why I posted this issue as I went through the exact same thing, it wasn't until @beanland PM'd me about his Denali and chrome tip mishap that led me to contact the dealer about the $90 chrome tip missing.

Take off the whole muffler and add something nice along w/ the tip? Unless you want it quiet I guess.

I'm actually astonished the 2010-13's had 3.5", no need whatsoever, lose backpressure, what are they freakin supercharged??! 3" is plenty

RPO code for the tip says it is dealer installed, but presumably it should be shipped with the truck.

Yes, I experienced the same issue during my PDI. The tech discovered the tip shipped with the truck was way too big. He tried another one from their parts bin but it wouldn't fit either. I wasn't too concerned because I knew I was going to my exhaust shop the next day to install a dual cat back system with 22" of 4" chrome coming straight out the back. I never did get my tip.

My tip did not come at delivery either. My salesman said he would let me know when it arrives. Good info. Weird that the VIN shows on the box, but it is an incorrect size. On my paper key tag it shows the GM order code.

My exhaust will be replaced but not until I get through this nice cold winter we have in the cheese head state.

In the mean time, I will be reviewing all the options out there and taking advice from those with the 6.2L that did this such as your self.

so couple questions if you don't mind:

1) was this a kit or custom exhaust job from the job?

2) did you remove the AFM, if not is there any drone when in 4?

 

Pictures of the system/rear exhaust coming out the back would be great.

Custom system. We cut the factory sys off forward of the muffler. Installed 22" Magnaflo single in, dual outlet with custom bent 3 1/2 " stainless pipe to come straight out the back. Installed 22" of 4" chrome at the end of each pipe. Total cost $435. There is absolutely NO drone in v4 or 8, at any speed.
