The radio issues suck big time. I have a 2014 Mazda 6 that has a MSRP of $23,000 and a Truck with a sticker of $39,000+ and the Mazda kills the GMC on reception everywhere we go. Fortunately I don't really care for radio much except the listen to the baseball games and those being on AM seem to get a better signal. I just run my iPod through the interface which works pretty well and then I have internet radio and more music / pod casts on my mobile device.

Hopefully they fix this somehow especially for those who listen to the FM radio a lot.

Had the PI 1288 update done to my early build (7-13) silverado no better reception but when you shut off the HD it will stay off when changing stations.

Having new radio installed tomorrow morning, GM called me today after talking with dealer, have early build truck not sure if they are putting in a.different radio module then others have had installed. This module has taken a long time to get in over ten days, and I wonder if it has a fix installed in it. Person from GM was confident that it would at last fix the problem. I pointed out to him that they had dropped this radio from the 2015's. He said that this should improve reception. Will post results.

Tjay, when you were working with engineers for a fix, were they from GM or Ibiquity the radio manufacturer?

I am on my second 2014 1500, this one was built in Nov 2013. Radio reception is better but I still can't use the HD function. Even with HD turned off I have static interference on every station, some are much worse than others.

I just got off the phone with Ibiquity and they are again saying that it is an antenna wiring issue and GM is aware of the problem...

Not that you should have to, but has anyone tried opening the dash and completely bypassing the factory antenna wiring and mast?

Just got back from dealer, have not driven enough to give new radio a fair test. Was told by service manager that I received a new radio and that It was the most current in production and updates. Tjay here is the info off the ticket. Install sop radio, J#10cdz001. called TAC ok from rep to replace radio, Rep. has radio ordered. Replaced radio and programmed. My XM radio ID is different.

I do not know who you were talking to but these radio's are built by Fujitsu Ten. Ibiquity is the builder of HD radio, not radios.

In one of the most revolutionary moves since Frank Conrad introduced radio broadcasting in 1919, iBiquity Digital Corporation has created HD Radio Technology to bring AM and FM radio into the digital 21st century.

This breakthrough technology allows digital radio signals to ride the same airwaves as analog AM and FM radio broadcasts, bringing crystal-clear sound from any radio station to the listening public along with new FM audio channels and wireless data services. The HD Radio In-Band, On-Channel (IBOC) system is the only FCC-approved system for digital AM and FM. It provides for true, end-to-end digital broadcasting within the existing spectrum and allows with continued analog broadcasts to legacy receivers.

iBiquity’s partners include leading consumer and broadcast electronics manufacturers; semiconductor and electronic component manufacturers; automakers; retailers and wireless data service providers. Each of our partners has joined with iBiquity Digital to advance the rollout of HD Radio Technology through the introduction of new products, services and equipment that will allow for a seamless transition to digital radio in much the same way that color television replaced black-and-white broadcasts.

iBiquity Digital has three offices in Columbia, Maryland (corporate headquarters), Piscataway, New Jersey, and Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Yea, it's not just HD, its an overall shitty radio reception experience. I think something in this truck is causing interference.

Gotcha so the am/fm/hd radio module is all one unit built by Fujitsu Ten? I took my old truck apart bc I thought an antenna wire was disconnected, I only remember seeing 3 modules behind the mylink screen, an XM, Onstar and Radio module. Is this correct?

So I will ask Tjay this then, were u working with GM engineers or Fujitsu Ten engineers?

Honestly I could really care less if the HD radio works but I would like am/fm....noimsayin...

Thanxs Arnold. The company Director just called me and explained this in depth. It is the coax cable from the radio to the antennae mount. This is a problem in over 50% of the trucks, some worse than others. The loose connectors on the coax leave the cable un shielded and allows all sorts of electrical interference to get in. GM is being pushed to issue a recall or as needed service bulletin for the problem, may take some time. I am very pleased that they took the time to personally explain this to me.Thanks to all who participated.

I went through this thread again, and this was a very early post. Forgive me if I missed the answer to this, as I didn't read every single post.

Is this a dead issue? Has anyone had the cable replaced?

Company in question is Ibiquity.

The modules you saw were most likely the Radio (Fujitsu Ten) HMI (Bosch) and OnStar module (LG). Ibiquity would have nothing at all to do with the concerns in these trucks.

I was speaking with and working with GM engineers.

just got back from a short drive. No improvement in HD reception, regular FM may be a little better. I now have the latest radio with the latest update. Has any tried to change the antenna wire? Is there an aftermarket antenna wire?

So it's basically the same as your old radio..........right? Everyone's trip to their dealer for a hopeful solution has turned out to be a let down.

dmd277, after reading your post, I'll save myself a "dealer dealing". Fact is, nothing that's on the table right now will fix our radio issue.

I wonder, is the coax cable a viable try.

    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
