I will too. Just talking to the wife about my POS radio. I am NOT going to own this truck for X amount of years with a radio as mickey mouse as the one we're stuck with. "Don't like it turn it off", what a lame fix. This is a bunch of bulls**.That's not what we paid good money for.

I agree, however I don't think you will ever get a buy back due to the radio. People are having worse problems and can't get a buy back. I wish my only problem was the radio.

Edit: I think you would have to trade it in if you wanted to get rid of it. GM has so many issues right now, I don't think this radio issue is a priority.

Pretty much what I'd expect to have to do, if I pursued it to the end. Trading in on a '15 could possibly be a crap shoot that I'd end up with one as good as this one. As you posted, I'm fairly lucky to only have the radio issue. I feel for all the other owners with far worse problems. It's only a radio, but that's what I listen to. I will say XM is basically flawless.

tbarn, why so negative?! :P If the engineers aren't lying to TJay, I hope not, then there should be a new PI in the next couple weeks.

Brian, not trying to be negative. Just throwing any info I have out there. I don't really have a dog in this race. My radio works ok. I updated it just to see if it was any better. Seldom listen to terrestrial radio anyway. The infotainment system as a whole is awesome I think. Hope you guys with reception problems get a fix.

Buyback for a radio, you bet. I was already offered the option from GM and turned it down as I was going to lose too much money on the deal.

I paid good money for a brand new truck, for the upper end model radio and prefer one that works. I wont use nor would I ever pay for XM/Sirus as they are one of the shadiest companies out there.

The new 2015 infotainment will not transfer over into the 2014 trucks, at least that is what the GM engineers told me.

Gm and dealer are going to try a fix on my truck, They are going to replace parts(don't know what part only that it is on order and will be at dealer next week). I don't have any more info at this time but will post what was done and if it worked as soon as I get truck repaired.

As per my previous posts, I have been in contact with GM, dealer, engineering (spent many hours on this issue). They replaced my early build radio with a newer build model and it made an improvement, but still not correct. I wanted a buyback, GM said no. GM should be embarrassed to put a radio with the reception issues like this in a 2014 model.

I am noticing that even the work truck loaner I have gets horrible FM reception and it doesn't have the 8 inch touch screen.

I wonder if something GM installed in these trucks is causing interference with the radio.

I have had my radio unit, behind the display screen replaced and I can honestly say this is not a fix!

I live outside the city limits with little to no interference, and radio station is around 18mile away and that has issues keeping a proper signal on fm bandwidth.

This is disturbing to think that a company as big as GM can't or won't fix this issue for their customers.

Push for legal actions to get it sorted, or do nothing as it will not get any better everytime you turn it on to listen to it.....!

I never really bothered with the ability to turn off the HD signal. Well, after reading that the latest software update will keep the HD signal totally turned off, I've been trying that on a few different stations I listen to on a regular basis.

At certain times it actually gets worse reception. So the "fix" of turning the HD signal off doesn't work worth a crap either. Shame on GM for allowing this inferior product to make it into the assembly line, and thanks for screwing something up so simple as a freekin' radio!!

GM people I hope you are reading these posts!

You guys should really read other topics once in awhile. GM is dropping HD Radio next year completely. Can't turn it on and off if it isn't there!

I was thinking the same.

IF this no HD '15 radio works, maybe the '14 guys and gals can push for a new '15 radio swap.

I don't want a swap to a radio with no HD. I want GM to fix it to where I can get HD Radio. In 2014, there is no reason that every car shouldn't have HD Radio. In Houston, it seems like we have at least 30 HD radio stations, so it's not like some technology that never caught on. It's here and it's staying so for GM to just say, "we can't figure out how to make it work so we'll just remove it" tells me that the company they hired to produce the infotainment has hired the dumbest set of engineers that I've ever seen.

^ good luck to you. Hope they get it but doubt it.

Does ford, dodge use HD and how does that work for them?

Not the first time GM put a faulty option on and then just give up on it. Heated washer fluid was a good recent example of this

Had HD Radio in my 2012 F-150 and it worked flawlessly.

    • Hello Guys I'm new to the form,         I just put a 7-inch Rough Country lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and I also put a Borla exhaust on it. But I noticed when I'm in park or in neutral and then I rev my truck up really quick there is a bad click noise and I think it's coming from the motor somewhere. Anyways I got a video of it I will attach below I was just wondering if you guys think its rod knock or lifter tick or something like that because I know the AFM kind of made the lifters weak on these trucks.       Thanks!!!!! • We’ll have to agree to disagree. I didn’t experience or know anyone who had a decent car after 100K miles in the 60s through the 80s that were daily commuter vehicles. Unless they were collector vehicles. Of course things cost more due to inflation. But we also make more money. The biggest money drains these days are things people think they need today versus what we require back in the day. Like cell phones and internet as examples. Another example is where you live. Cost of living varies from state to state. I would need twice the money to live in NJ vs Texas in retirement. The car you recently purchased was less than my first car with inflation at 3000$ in 1973. I didn’t have air, electric windows, cruise etc. Purchasing power is equivalent, you just have to do the research.
    • Sierra HD Pro:   - If you want a power driver's seat on the Pro, you can't get it.  You have to go to SLE.   - Factory remote start?  Can't get it on any of the Sierra Pro trim (1500 or HD).  You have to go SLE.     - 7 inch radio has limitations for replacement if you wanted to upgrade the screen, etc.    - Steering wheel radio controls?  Nope.  Can you add them?  Yes.  NOT CHEAP.  Requires a new instrument cluster, steering wheel and wiring harness mod kit.     - Fog lights?  Nope.  And no factory path to install them.    Sierra HD SLE:   - IMO, the larger radio screen is a much better interface.   - Fog lights?  You can get them.  Steering wheel controls?  Has them.  Remote start?  Yep.  Power driver seat?  Available.       Silverado WT:   - Same as the Pro above however you CAN get factory remote start installed at the dealer for the WT Chevy.     Silverado Custom:   - Comes with 20" wheels only.  Can you swap later?  Sure.  But.  Truck is calibrated for the stock 20s (34" tire) and no path to properly recalibrate.     - Power seat?  Yes.   - Steering wheel controls?  Same as the Pro above.  No but can be done and not cheap.     Silverado LT:   - Same as the SLE.  You can get or it comes with many features you can't do on the lower trims.       I'd say its all going to come down to what you NEED and what you WANT to have that you'd benefit from.  For me, things like power seat is a must (I hate the WT/Pro seating position), so I'd have to go Custom, LT or SLE right out of the gate.  Steering wheel controls?  Should be standard in 2026 across the board IMO, so again, puts me to LT or SLE.
    • I have a 1500 but the Custom trim. I bought it solely for the simplicity meaning less electronics. I also love the old school gauges. The only thing that I like about the LT better than my Custom is the front grill. Otherwise, absolutely no regrets choosing this trim.
    • Modifications are required.  2020-2023 the wheel well sheet metal does not have all of the fastener openings stamped for liners that the 2024-2026 dually wells have.  The liners are the right shape and everything, and the wheel well sheet metal is the same shape, its just the older trucks don't have all of the mounting points.     Here's a link to a Facebook post about doing this - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Nqow8VNKE/
