Silverado 2014 crew cab cylinder change issue

Just purchased a 2014 Silverado, less than 1000 miles. A distinct squeal or chirp occurs each time the truck changes from 4 to 8 cylinders. Dealer said that nothing could be done. The noise is very annoying and should not be present in a truck that cost over 40k or any other new truck for that matter. Will continue to take it in until state lemon laws can be applied.

• Definitely NOT normal. Never hear a sound when mine changes. Do you have another Chevy dealer nearby? Otherwise, suggest you follow the escalation procedures for a complaint exactly how they are spelled out in the owners/warranty manual. A very detailed documentation trail will be necessary if you can't get it resolved at the dealership.

 

We had a lemon one time and it was only because of the documentation that the manufacturer took it back and replaced it with a new vehicle.

Sound to me like it's the exhaust flap that moves every time it goes into V4 or back to V8. I forget what it's called but I'm thinking adaptive valve. You could ask the dealer if it would be safe to put some penetrating oil on it. Its near the muffler and I think it says "adaptive valve" right on it. You will know when you see it.

What model, engine etc...? See another dealer and be sure to let us know what gives.

Mine does it too.. Its REALLY annoying as well.. I thought it was the exhaust flapper but haven't had time to look at it yet. Let us know what they find

Pedro forgot to tighten a few critical bolts or nuts.

Clamp the exhaust flapper open.

Glad you got it resolved. Exhaust should sound a little more burly now too.
