2014 Silverado Voice Commands

I have a 2014 Silverado, 2013 Equinox and 2010 Corvette. The voice commands on the 'Nox and the 'Vette are very easy to use. Push the button... "Call Matt"... response - "Calling Matt".

Not so with the new Silvy.

"Initializing"

"Did you say HELP?"

"Please say the number or name of the person you wish to call"

"That command is not recognized in the system"

"Goodbye"

This is very frustrating. I know it's not my voice recognition that's the problem simply because the other two vehicles are so easy to use and I'm saying exactly the same words.

So, I've resorted to finding the number in my contact list. But the whole idea of voice command is to keep your eyes on the road!

Any recommendations?

(BTW... I love everything else about my truck. No shake. No vibration. No issues. No complaints, just this minor irritation. Maybe it will just take some time for the system to "learn" my voice. ) :)

Yes, that does sum it up nicely.

I found the voice commands to be pretty good. Take the dip out of your mouth when trying to talk! haha jk

I do have kind of a loud voice... (at least that's what my wife tells me! )... she has told me to "tone it down a notch", but I've had little success.

Mine works fairly well when the Bluetooth connection is functioning. Which is most of the time.

I have all of my phone contacts in as FIRSTNAME LASTNAME format. So, if I say "call JOHN SMITH on MOBILE" it has more syllables to work with to try to get it right.

Very seldomly, my work phone will sync instead of my personal phone. In these instances, I'll attempt a personal contact and it will spit back a completely different work contact instead. Annoying, but easily understandable once I realize what was going on there.

You might try adding last names to your phone contacts and it ought to do better at calling who you tell it to...

The Initializing thing generally happens when you try to use the voice too quickly after start up. I found the system needs about a min to sync up everything.. phone, music on memory cards, etc. Then it should go away. It probably also depends on how much stuff you have connected. For me... phone just to bluetooth calls. All music (8gb) is on a SD card.

You guys that have issue should try just putting all music on USB or SD

I have found a few times the says this Initializing thing even after a long time ... kinda a burp in the system. In those few cases it worked fine after I re started the truck.

The only real problem I have had with mine is the voice prompt setting... the default is "Long" I like "short" .. whenever I change it ... the system defaults back to long prompt on it's own after a few days.

I've had horrible results with mine. So much that I've quit trying to use it for anything other than calling someone. It recognizes the name I tell it to call about 80% of the time. However, I can think of only 1 time it has ever recognized an address I tell it to find. The NAV voice command system is the worst I've ever seen in any vehicle. I might tell it to take me to "1234 Smith Street", and it will say; "Would you like to go to San Antonio?" It's really that bad!

If I tell it to; "Tune to XM 33", it will come back with something like; "Would you like me to call Fi-Fi?"

No matter how slowly and clearly I speak, it cannot determine an address. It's just another poorly designed GM system.

I'll try that. I always thought simpler would be better. That's why I programmed my 4 boys names as "Matt, Kyle,Kurt and Mike"! I'll try the last name method and see if it works.

Hands down way worse than SYNC on my F150 that I had previously. So much so that I don't use the voice command system on this truck. If I say call someone, I don't need 3,000 replies from the system asking me "did you say?.....". Luckily, I programmed the 2 phone numbers I use the most as Favorites in the Favorites Bar on the bottom of the screen.

Oh, and I have no doubt that this will all be fixed when GM releases the new systems for the 2015 and that we were the test subjects that have to live with this crap because GM won't update the systems.
