Trans 6L80 Max input torque 439TQ

 

Where does this add up?

Wouldn't the 6.2 be inputting 460ft lbs tq? And the 6L80 spec says it can only handle 439ft lbs tq. Why???

It's also possible that since the eng and trans controllers talk to each other that the engine controller holds back the torque in lower gear(s) as needed to to protect the transmission. (and driveline components behind the trans)

Torque management will only restrict output in the lower gear ratios, when necessary to protect driveline components.

 

If traction control is off, vehicle is in a low gear and tires break loose before max permitted torque is reached then no reduction is required.

Vehicle is carrying enough weight that tires do not / cannot brake loose, then (at least in lower gears) torque management likely to limit torque delivered to drive line.

In higher gears there is less amplification of output torque and no need for limiting by 'torque management'.
