Aluminum hood strength

We had snowfall recently and I was reminded of past experiences when I had to literally dig my vehicle out of a snow pack. Will the new aluminum hoods on our trucks hold up under weight like the GMC's in the 80's? I also thought that an aluminum hood would also be less susceptible to dings from hail or other objects but am difficulty in finding material to support this. I know aluminum, like steel, comes in different strength and quality. I was wondering if this change of material serves as good or better than that found on previous models.

I live in the lake effect snow area south of Lake Ontario and after the past two years, I can tell you not to worry about snow on the hood.

A snow load that is spread I wouldn't worry about. That said, I wouldn't sit, press, or put any spot weight on it. I think hail will ding the heck out of it. Given that you can see it flex in the wind on the highway I think it's pretty thin.

Despite what people think the aluminum body parts hold up great. I actually bought my truck with hail damage and yes my hood is ruined but the hail was also golf ball size at the smallest.
