10,000 kms on 4.3 V6

Yesterday my odometer turned 10,000 kms. on my trouble free V6 in my 2015 Sierra 1500 CC 4X4. I have used my truck for every type of task I would/will use it for and haven't once been disappointed. The V6 will provide more than enough power for the majority of people and is only lacking in the bragging rights enjoyed by its bigger brothers. I decided to do something about it because nobody riding I'm my truck can tell its not a V8 unless I tell them! (I did post this picture on the thread telling what you did to your truck today)

I have no beef with the 4.3 vs it's pretty much a V8 anyways? 100% better than say a Pentastar which is pathetic even the newly revised one.

If the GM 4.3 like you had batteries under center console, regenerative braking, stop start, 10 speed for optimized mpg's and same power output getting me say 28mpgs on HWY& 23mpg mixed I would be all over it! It's a great NA engine. I feel the same about 4x4 and have driven enough trucks to know that it's not needed for general purpose.

I don't know why you say the Pentastar is pathetic, I have it in a Jeep and it is a very strong motor.

The pentastar is way out dated? Not even close to GM's High Feature V6's Now the newly revised pentastar is now only capable of meeting Todays Gm HF V6's It's a east/west mount engine for cars/suvs etc...............NOT A 5,000+ truck. GM built a known displacement Very small V8 increased the walls, spacing bore size called it 6cyl only for Longitudinal placement AKA TRUCK format and yes, it's a dang good engine and it's head and shoulders above a pentastar.

Also GM's new 3.6 is now a complete generation ahead of the newly revised Pentastar poor Chrysler no wonder serg wants to dump ya!

Your V6 is putting out horsepower and torque numbers that were big V8's not that long ago, it's a very capable motor!

The emblem looks good. What kind of MPG are you getting?

Thanks! I get approximately 11L/100km highway and 15.5L/100km city. This converts to 21 mpg highway and 15 mpg city. It doesn't seem great on paper, but I do a lot of stop and go driving. (delivering meals to shut-ins etc.)

I'm a little surprised.

That's as much as, what I get with my '13, 5.3, AFM disabled.

But then, both engines have to move almost the same mass.

Yes, I was a little surprised when I did the conversion to mpg. The figures I posted are based on my usual expectations and are not best (or worst) achieved. Gas mileage is strongly influenced by driving habits and you would probably see better figures if you were driving my truck. I came from a similarly equipped 09 GMC Sierra with a 5.3 and the time between fill ups has increased noticeably.

I'm getting more like 16 MPG in Texas with mostly highway driving (30 miles one way). Very disappointed with the MPG numbers as the truck was bought mainly for the MPGs, but I wonder if the AT tires have anything to do with those numbers.

They shouldn't as the truck has a 3.22 rear end, but who knows because it has 20 inch rims. Just waiting for the road trip in July to see what it gets on a strait drive without the little run arounds I do on both ends of that 30 mile commute.

What are some of you other V6 guys getting?

It sounds to me like there is something wrong with your truck if it is getting 16 mpg. Are your tires oversized? Is your odometer reading kilometers instead of miles? Also, I thought all 4.3's came with the 3.42 rear end.

I'm getting roughly 9.5 l/100km hwy and 13 city. towing a RZR S 900 with a 7x12' aluminum trailer, is around 14. I have no issues with the V6, but I hate the 6 speed. especially towing, it loves to stay in 5th gear. is there a tuner that helps the tranny shifting?

I got my truck tuned with about 16k miles. Truck now has 26k and have zero issues. Truck runs great, shifts great all thanks to Justin at Blackbear. I still average about 22mpg highway and 16/17 mpg city.

I'm getting 22 highway, 19 driving around town, and hit a high score of 26 last week. I have been very impressed by the LV3, that powertrain in my 4x4 CC feels like the 4.6 Iforce V8 in my past tundra
