What happens when you take the small Trax crossover and outfit it to go off-road? You get the Chevrolet Trax Activ Concept.

Lifted 1.5 inches (40mm), widened 3 inches (80mm) and outfitted with some aggressive BFG KO2 off-road tires, the Trax Activ looks outrageous. With a monster truck-style stance, you may may not even recognize it. With all-wheel-drive, the Activ is set to go just about anywhere.

The Concept has a slew of aftermarket parts that, surprise, Chevrolet will eventually offer at your local dealer. While you won't be able to order the custom Satin Sandstorm color, the concept LED bar, or the unique front and rear fascias just yet, some of the other options can be picked up at your dealer today.

The Activ Concept features the following production accessories:

  • Thule Roof Basket - 19331872 - $309
  • 18-inch Painted Wheels - 19302645 - $1,500
  • Center Cap w/ Chevy logo - 19300043 - $80
  • Front Floor Liners - 42533130 - $70
  • Rear Floor Liners - 42533134 - $60

While we don't doubt the above parts will appeal to Trax owners of all types, the concept as a whole is answer without a question in our minds. That said, it's always fun to look at something that just seems a little too extreme.

What do you think? Would you buy the Trax Activ?

I think little off-roaders like the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk make some sense. The question is, how much does the look and legacy matter to actual buyers? My gut says "A Lot." The Fiat Panda had serious off-road abilities and was crazy cheap.

Looks just like an Isuzu Vehicross to me - nothing earth-shattering in the design department, I suppose, but I like it anyway. I have never seen this model before - heard of it, but never saw it in pics, or in person. Crossovers ain't my thing.

$1,500 for wheels ... now that is extreme! :noway:

I like it and this is a direction that our American manufacturers need to start heading. It really doesn't cost all that much to design and produce something that has an extremely fast growing market behind it. Look at what Jeep and Subaru have done and I can tell you from people that I know that have them, that they are glad that the componentry on the vehicle came from the factory and everything was tested as a system......aftermarket add-ons are trouble. Now if they would only bring a real full framed Trailblazer to the states that could compete with the 4-runner and Grand Cherokee.
