Long Travel

Recommended Posts

I once did a little over 900 mi (1,456 km) in one day and was home in time to help put the kids to bed! (I hadn't seen them or my wife for a couple of months so the motivation was there!) I didn't have any special set-up but I always make certain my vehicles are in top running condition and carry a safety kit. I keep hydrated and avoid heavy meals. If tired, I get off the road.

Up until I was 40 it was routine for me to travel from conroe tx to New Jersey strait about 33hrs pulling a fifth wheel with a tractor on back with my one ton. I had a 100 gallon fuel tank and cooler with cokes and food. I'd pull over fuel up and eat repeat. Lucky I was done with that by 40, after that 12 hrs max. At 60 7-8 hrs max.

Pushed myself 550 mi in one day on my old 70 sporty hardtail, original baskit case with custom aluminum frame, SS Fi motor..

My skinny butt paid for it, even with lower rear tire pressure on 300 Avon...

The 2 gal tank had multiple fill-ups..

Cheers---K
