Swapping single rear bench for 60/40 bench on double cab

Hi all, first post here. I just picked up a 2015 Silverado 1500 LS Custom 5.3 Double Cab with 35,000 miles about a month ago. Even though it's pretty much a base model I'm in love with the truck so far, been wanting to get a truck for a long time, mostly to haul dirtbikes and other recreational purposes and light household work. Already had the bed Rhino lined and added nerf bars and Carhartt seat covers. 

 

The only thing the truck is lacking for my purpose is the 60/40 rear seat, it has a one piece rear bench. I have a kid in a car seat that I'd like to keep on the 40 side and I want to be able to lift up the 60 to make room for my 2 50 pound dogs. The one piece bench makes that a challenge. 

 

Has anyone swapped the split bench from an LT into the LS? I watched a video showing how to remove the split bench and it looks like there's a floor mount between the two segments, but my single bench only has mounts on the far outsides. Otherwise it seems like swap would be easy.

Would the seats be secure without the central mount being bolted to the floor? It looks like the center brackets on the seats themselves bolt up to each other so maybe that would work ok?

If it was just your mother-in-law riding in the back seat I would say not worry about the central mounts, but with your childs' safety in mind I might err on the side of safety. If you know a good welder they might be able to tack weld studs onto the floor pan without burning thru or warping it.  A DIY method would be after carefully measuring and marking the mount points AND most importantly checking underneath the floor pan to make sure you're not going to fubar anything up, drill thru the floor pan, use a little primer or really any rust preventive spray paint on the bare metal you've exposed. Underneath use those large fender washers on the appropriate sized bolt, you'll need a helper inside the cab to temporarily secure the bolts with nuts until you're ready to install the seat.

Are they only anchored to the sheet metal?  I feel like they would be anchored to something more substantial like a plate or the cab structure.

Did you check for mount locations in your truck?  

You likely have seatbelts for 3, same as the split rear.

 

The bracket for seat and seatbelts mount to same bolt on floor (at least in a crew -- but I'd guess the DC would have same seatbelt/seat set-up.

Should be good to go if you can find a seat.

I watched the video and checked out my floor plan, it looks like the stud that holds the female ends of the belts for the right side passengers are the same stud that the 40/60 seat mounts to. However with the 40/60 seat the seat belts is a different mounting location for some reason. 

 

I don't have the threaded hole to insert the bolt that's the second center mount for the 40 seat, but it might be there underneath the vinyl flooring. Either way the single stud is probably enough to hold the seat secure. 

 

I'm going to have to get my truck side by side with one that has the split seat to really compare them up close.

If anyone with the 40/60 Double Cab setup can take a minute to lift their seats and snap a good quality photo of the central mount I'd really appreciate it.

Just to update, I did this swap today and it fit with minor modifications. I found a 60/40 seat from a totaled 2014 and picked it up for $250. The ends slip right on where the old seat mounted, the middle mount goes where the female end of the seat belt for the one piece seat was mounted. There is a second middle mount where a bolt is supposed to be inserted instead of a stud, my truck doesn't have that hole, it actually feels like it had the hole but it's welded over. The seat feels stable without that one last mount. Lastly you have to bolt the seats together, make sure you get these bolts with the seat you buy. 

 

Now the split seat uses a different female end seat belt assembly that requires more floor holes I don't have. Instead I reused the part from my old seat, in order to fit it though you need to grind off the alignment tab next to the bolt. Once it's on it does reach up between the seats and works fine, it's just soft mounted unlike the rigid mounted ones that come with the 60/40 seat. The left side seat belt is exactly the same. 

 

Hopefully someone else finds this info useful.
