Here's Your 2019 Silverado Trim & Engine Availability Matrix

We just found out about Chevy's all new 2.7L Turbo-Four engine that will be standard on LT and RST trim levels this morning. Now, we're finding out exactly how we'll be able to pair all of the new Silverado's trim levels and engine choices. 

 

Remember, the Silverado has been slated to get an all new 3.0L Diesel engine... but we've heard nothing about which trim levels we'd be able to order it in until today. The answer will make a lot of people happy. The 3.0L Duramax can be ordered on most trim levels, including LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country. Anyone upset about the lack of the 6.2L in the Trail Boss should jump for joy that they can have a diesel instead!  EDIT: I was wrong. LT Trail Boss does not get the 3.0L and ONLY has the 5.3L listed. How disappointing. 

 

We've also learned that GM will carry over last year's 4.3L and 5.3L engines for WT Custom Trims. You can actually buy a Custom Trail Boss with 2018's 5.3L and a six-speed transmission. How odd. 

 

How does everything else line up? GM's press release says it most succinctly, so I've copied that info below:

Each engine/transmission combination is matched with exterior design and interior features to create distinct personalities for each Silverado trim, based on three broad customer profiles: High Value, High Volume and High Feature.

 

High Value — For customers seeking full-size truck capability and the highest level of affordability, the Work Truck (WT), Custom and Custom Trail Boss trims offer two proven engine and transmission combinations:

Standard: 4.3L V-6 with Active Fuel Management and a six-speed automatic transmission (SAE-certified at 285 hp/305 lb-ft).
Available: 5.3L V-8 with Active Fuel Management and a six-speed automatic transmission (SAE-certified at 355 hp/383 lb-ft).

 

High Volume — For customers shopping in the heart of the truck market, the LT, RST and LT Trail Boss trims balance technology, efficiency and performance:

Standard for LT and RST: All-new 2.7L Turbo with Active Fuel Management and stop/start technology paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission (SAE-certified at 310 hp/348 lb-ft).
Standard on LT Trail Boss and available on LT and RST: An updated 5.3L V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management and stop/start technology with an eight-speed automatic transmission (SAE certified at 355 hp/383 lb-ft).
Available on LT and RST: The all-new Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel with stop/start technology paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission will be available in early 2019.

 

High Feature — For customers shopping for a premium truck, the LTZ and High Country trims offer the highest levels of performance and technology, including:

Standard: Updated 5.3L V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management and stop/start technology  paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission (SAE certified at 355 hp/383 lb-ft).
Available: Updated 6.2L V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management and stop/start technology paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission (SAE certified at 420 hp/460 lb-ft).
Available: The all-new Duramax 3.0L inline-six Turbo-Diesel with stop/start technology paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission will be available in early 2019.

Uhhhh, your text and lineup matrix don't match. It's shows Trail Boss ONLY has the 5.3, and -- under the 3.0. Will the "real people" be joy jumping or not?

Zane, will the WT still be available with the 6.5 (standard) box? Nice to see they are keeping the 4.3. Love this motor and it's six speed.

Good catch! I copied my info from GM. The text says the 3.0 will be avaliable but the matrix does not. I'll ask for clarification but my guess is the text is right. I doubt they would restrict it to the top two trim levels only. 

 

EDIT: And I was wrong. I guess the LT Trail Boss doesn't fall under the other LT Trim Level.

Not sure yet. GM has not released any ordering info for the WT or Custom Trim levels as of today.

I can't believe the 6.2 isn't available in RST.

The 8 speed in my High Country was great, much smoother and more efficient than the 6 speed in my RCSB Sierra. It's one of the only thing I really miss about the High Country.

    • Without knowing how bad your banging is, one suggestion is the intermediate steering shaft on the steering wheel. These used to be a problem on 800 and earlier series. The feeling/sound was sometimes described as "clunking" and was felt in the wheel. Also there is a plastic piece in the lower column that is referred to as a bearing. Not your traditional looking bearing though. Your ball joints, bushings and tie rods or steering rack (if equipped) are the main point of issues. You never mention total unit miles, only that you've put 60k on it.   You can search the site for help on the ISS description.     • Yes I have is set with the 1mm disk (Minumim Tension), for spring spacing and I raised my truck in the rear 1.5". You can go 2mm  and I think 3mm if you need.Minimum. We are on our way to TN from GA.. My wife is driving and stated she cannot believe  and   stated she can not belive the difference.
    • Most 1 ton trucks come with the factory overload spring, which need to be removed for installation of RoadActive Suspension. Removing the overload allows proper fitment and ensures the system works as intended. The RAS® Mega-Duty kit will reduce squat and provide significant improvement vs the factory overload spring.
    • I wonder as well, why they would send me a text message with links to these suggested procedures totalling over $10,000 without even the slightest hint of how they arrived at these being necessary.

To cover both they have to lie from the heart.    Government wants low waste oil numbers so the bar needs to be very low on contamination to met that requirement.  Consumer wants cheap maintenance (perceived cost). Again requiring a low bar.  OEM wants high margins at a cost effective warranty rate and lots of repeat customers. More low bar.  Filter manufacture wants the same thing the OEM wants. See the pattern?   Consumers are fickle and also want perfection requiring a HIGH bar. Inconsistent with all of the above. Consumers can be, when the put their minds to it, inquisitive, love winning arguments which requires some useful information to be available to support them. And this is where it gets sticky and the lies begin.    Information needs a solid well grounded point of reference if we are to compare in a useful way. There is a standard for this.  ISO 4548-12. This standard sets the particle size at a specific Beta ratio and darn few are faithful to its intent.    If they don't state the test method they change the particle size or the Beta ratio to hit a perceived favorable standard. They obscure the information in a way as to prevent direct comparisons leaving the consumer with one method. UOA's with an ISO 4406 test result. Pricey and not allot of labs willing to do the work. Lobby work happens everywhere, not just at the seat of government.
