HP tuners seem like the best but according to the info I got, HP tuners need a laptop running Win 10.

Jim

That's not true.  Though a laptop running W10 is cheap.

I also vote HPT.

the older units don't need 10 but I'm unsure on the new ones. Shows windows, android, bt, and usb.  I still have a older unit as the software is the same. But a higher end $2000 dollar laptop all solid state. A better laptop isn't needed really other than data logging many inputs in configure file. but you can still data log without a laptop and then transfer file over.

I also use my pro with a analog input for the wide band. It makes it easier to see it in the data file and compare in real time with other numbers in the same file. Then I also at the same time have a usb 3.0 input to my gauges and that logs in a different program boost controller egt at turbo and next oil temp and pressure. The hp logs these but as it reads the stock pcm I question the accuracy of the stock sensors.

Many posts about the oil pressure issues on these trucks.

Anyone tuning uses HPT or Efilive usually... SCT and Diablo are out there but not like guys using one of the other 2.  I own both HPT and Efilive myself.. for one tune on one truck at a time most guys aren't going to buy the software, learn to use it and then forget about it lol.  I would say find a tuner to do it for you but I have honestly redone every tune I have had written for me because it was either half assed or not done how I asked it to be.  A good chunk if not all the tunes out there for your average bolt on truck are a canned tune that particular guy has created or stolen from somewhere and just sends out with at most minor tweaks.  Gm is no different... one truck with a 5.3, 6L80e and 3.42s will have the identical tune to every other one with the same config and only minor tweaks for tires or axle ratios.

Do whatever is most convenient.

I agree with that statement. My tune has been "shared" 6 times that I know of and for free to help out on3 turbonguys that paid a professional and had issues.
That said they write my tune and jump in and drive. All are happy. Some like a little softer trans shifts. But all had no cel full boost and happy drivers.
I will not name names but HUGE name shop couldn't do the new gm trucks and a few people I know personally parted out full build trucks. Made big power but the trans issues where so bad they stripped them and sold everything. I trust no one to do it right so I do it. Am I the best .....no and yes. I am the best for me and I have access to the best in the world so it gets done. But people can buy hpt and find a person like me or hpt forums download copy and write. So I call it can tune.
