Add me to the leak list.  2020 AT4 bought 2 weeks ago, 350 miles.  Build date is 09/19 I believe. Glass is the Virto E9.  Local dealer has a separate glass specialist doing the reseal next Thursday.
 

Add this to the SD card error that started before even pulling off the lot (replacement SD card on order) and a CEL that came in last night (parking brake sensor).  I will have had this thing in the shop every week since purchase.  Not a hot start.

Just got back into the country from being out for a couple of weeks. My RST was parked on my slightly inclined (nose up) driveway while I was gone. I know it rained a good bit in DFW while I was out. 

 

I had put a new towel between the rear window and the seat back to make sure to catch any drips. Towel was dry and the headliner stain did not grow. I guess it's not leaking anymore? I'm now wondering if my headliner stain -- which did not seem to appear until I had the rear window re-sealed in late December (after noticing the leak in earlier November) -- just appeared slowly from the original leak, not from the re-seal job. 

 

So hard to figure this thing out.

So I can’t afford to run to Everett GMC with ongoing leaking issues. So unless I’m missing something the dealer repairs are hit and miss and even with a brand new 2020 there’s still no guarantee it won’t leak. That’s a $60,000+ gamble I can’t afford to take. Please tell me I’m wrong or missing something? Thanks in advance. 

If you need a truck now but are concerned about the leak, maybe consider buying one with a fixed rear window instead of the slider?

No hurry, no rush to buy but you have a valid suggestion and I appreciate it. I’d rather wait and see if there is a long term fix or re-design. A shame when you read bamatuktuk with a brand new vehicle has immediate issues like that. I’m a big boy and realize there are/will be things to deal with on a vehicle but the issues with the leaking seem to really be significant. Thanks again.

Better stay away from the dealerships until you're ready to buy, then; I'm convinced these trucks sell themselves. My brother went in looking for a 2020 SLE double cab with bench seat, fixed rear window, 10 speed and max trailering package. He left with a 2019 SLT crew cab standard box with bucket seats, sliding rear window (that I recommended he avoid), 8 speed (that I recommended he avoid) and no max trailering package (which he probably doesn't truly need anyway). ?

Hello everyone.Great forum you got here.My truck went in thursday morning for rear window leak and a couple recalls.Dealership called that afternoon and said the frame was cracked and they had a new window on order.Hopefully get truck back early this comming week.I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Update,  Denali ultimate 2020,  1320 miles leaking rear window, water intrusion so bad all carpet front and rear totally saturated with rain water .  After my truck being at dealer for a month i got it back, leak fixed, my leak was different it from the rear defrost wire being caught under the window frame driver side and it had a hole in sealer size of pencil according to the leak specialist my dealer used to fix it. Now the rest of the story, for you guys who think its a easy fix well the actual leak is but the problem Is if they have to replace carpet or drop the headliner like they did in mine they gut your truck, to drop headliner alone means every corner pillar front center and rear has to be removed along with the back seat. My truck doesn’t leak but the inside is scratched and scared and many parts broken like the fastener covers and line up pins on rear corner covers and on and on. My dealers tech must have missed  how to properly remove and replace trim. Dealer ordered some replacement parts but I didn’t want the rest of the truck where they scratched side of dash and other places torn out so I guess I’ll live with them. I also have rattling and pops and cracks from where everything was taken out and put back in. So to me the fix is almost worse than the problem . I opened a case with GM to have it on record but as of now have not been offered anything as compensation for all the trouble or imo diminished value ot my truck. If you’re thinking About buying a GM truck I would hold off till this problem is  addressed at the factory. I feel for all going thru this ordeal

A year old and never been in a pressurized car wash. Mine doesn't leak and probably will never leak because water never touches the top frame of the window. At speed in a thunderstorm the sports bar disrupts the flow of water on the roof over the spoiler and there is never any water dripping on the outside of the rear sliding window(s). No cracks in the window rail probably because it "pops" in the heat......no popping and something has to give, usually the thin part of the plastic frame......no way I'm taking to the dealer for a pop, he can only compromise the existing seals or worse anchor the window so tight the frame will break expanding under heat.

 

Actually the above idea suggests the same principle as a drip rail .... a brilliant idea and effective way to keep water from traveling the underside of the spoiler onto the window frame. All the window sills in my house have it for the same reason. But no need to design anything special for the truck and go for the cheap quick fix as a preventative.. All it takes is using a 3M backed strip if 1/4" or 1/8" body molding on the lower surface of the spoiler directly below the CMHSL/bed light...and it won't look bad either....5 minutes for piece of mind even if the frame ever should crack. Parked in the Sun to today let the skin heat up and the molding goes on in an hour or two.

Good idea and hope it works but we shouldn't have to do this homemade, band aid, shadetree crap on brand new trucks. GM should be mortified sending out so many leakers. In the  2020 models too. Will 2021 be any different?

Add me to the freaking list. October 2019 built with sliding rear window. First time seeing this on my truck, probably has been happening. Thought my glass was cracked at first but nope, water running straight down the glass inside.

Well, first hard rain since my permatex window and glass sealant fix. Happy to report, dry as a bone. Here’s to hoping it lasts!!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
