Smell gas when approaching tailgate

I smell raw gas when approaching my tailgate.

i don’t smell it any where else.

what would cause this?

on a 2014 GMC Sierra Denali 5.3L

Is the vehicle still under warranty?

 

raw fuel smell is most certainly a problem.

Canister purge system is under the bed above the spare tire. I would think the check engine light would be giving you a code.

Check the tail pipe and see if that's the source.

 

But in most cases you should have an engine light.

 

Don't rule out that something flew up and hit the tank and you have a hole/leak it happens.
