Two weeks ago I purchased my 2020 AT4 fully loaded, premium package, tech package, sun roof, 6.2L with all the goodies.

Cost was $64,000

An AT4 maxes out at like $67k. Did you even haggle at all?

Some, but with the strike just ending and other dealerships not giving up their trucks I found what I wanted, from a dealership that I like, so I spent the money....

It seems strange that any dealership would not want to move vehicles,  strike or not.  They own it outright or their floor plan financier is going to hit them for interest on the vehicle as long as it sits on the lot.  Either way, they are out money until they move the vehicle.  GM doesn't ship vehicles to dealers out of the goodness of their heart.  But then, it is a gambling thing.  A dealer will bet the odds that someone will come along that will buy for almost full price.   In this case, it worked.   Doesn't mean the buyer got taken.  They didn't if they are happy with the sale.   Each person has to live within their own comfort zone.

Because it was an AT4 and it’s really the most wanted of the trims, a dealer won’t “trade” their truck with another dealer as they want that to sell...

Makes sense. Especially since it looks like you're in CT. Not exactly a major truck market.

Hey, you didn't get $10K off... but you still got the truck you wanted and you're happy with it. Congrats, sir! Enjoy the AT4! Sounds like you will!

When you  say 20 percent of sticker

is that off of msrp or off of the total price.
for example msrp is 41,900 but total price after options is 45,965

20% off total vehicle price.  There is a standard destination charge that is applied to all similar vehicles irregardless of the actual transport fee. As a commercial trucker myself, I could easily haul 6 full size 3/4 ton pickup trucks (7 full size 1500's) in one load and there is no way in hell I am going to get $1600 for each of them, even if they go across the nation.  A typical transport truck is lucky to see $2.50 a mile and load/unload time compensation.

Most transport runs are less than 1000 miles.  But for the sake of argument, let's say they average 1000 miles. At $2.50 a mile (probably less than that), it comes to about $2500.  I will be very generous and add in 1 hour of load/unload time per vehicle, which is probably about $50 per hour,  for a total of $300.  So we are at $2800.   Take that and divide by 6 trucks and that comes to $467 a truck actual destination cost.  Keep in mind, I am being very generous in both the per mile rate and the 1 hour load/unload time per truck.

Those destination charges are as inflated as the prices for the trucks themselves.  The average consumer isn't up to speed on the destination charge stuff, so the dealers can foist inflated destination charges on them.

If I could get $1600 per truck to haul them, I would race out and buy a car hauler truck tomorrow morning.  Heck, I would only make one run per week and still be raking in the revenue.  Imagine.... 6 pickup trucks paying $1600 each to haul, throw in the load/unload time, and that is $10,000 a load.  Let's say 40 loads a year, that is $400,000.  There is no way in hell a transport truck is getting that kind of revenue even hauling Rolls Royce cars, let alone pickups from tightwad GM.

For those of you with these great deals. When you negotiated the price off the MSRP,  was that final price before adding all the qualifying rebates in?

For example for 15% off the MSRP

MSRP = 65,500

15% off MSRP = 55,765

Then all the qualifying rebates get added in?

Or did the dealer just use the rebates as that percentage off the MSRP to get you the price you wanted?

mine was already factored in when we were negotiating.....I couldn't even tell you what specific rebates were I just looked at selling price....rest I could care less about, no chevy, dodge or ford even would give me a comparable truck for same price that I got in my area,i spent 2 months looking researching.....

best bet is do your negotiating thru emails or texts, screw goin to dealership nowadays......only to pick it up and sign papers

they play on emotion and thru a phone or email their is none......not that they can see anyway

Yeah!  Never go in. Never go there ever. I deal over the phone, text, emails. I have them deliver and I sign papers after looking at the vehicle and reading everything. If you catch an error your in a position to get a better deal.

I put a deposit on a new 2020 Sierra AT4 up in Montana (I am in Idaho).  The truck is scheduled for delivery to the dealer some time this week and I plan on taking delivery in a couple of weeks.

Installed Options

  • Sunroof, power $995.00
  • Technology Package $2,305.00
  • Smokey Quartz Metallic $495.00
  • Engine, Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I6 $2,495.00
  • Driver Alert Package II $1,095.00
  • AT4 Preferred Package $1,420.00
  • Driver Alert Package I $890.00
  • Tires, LT275/65R18C MT blackwall Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac $295.00

MSRP* $64,985.00

I pulled the trigger when I got to a cash price of $55,000 plus tax/title/doc

I didn't haggle as much as I normally would because there are no other Sierras equipped exactly the way I want, especially in the combination of the AT4 + SmokeyQuartz + 3.0l Diesel.  The 3.0l is especially constrained and this dealer told me that they were only allotted two units with the 3.0 diesel between now and February.   I do get additional $700 in costco rebate, and $400 in Business Choice upfit cash (to spend on GM accessories), and another $100 in accessories from GMRewards.  Also, I saw that if you fill out the survey from Costco then you'll get a 50% coupon for accessories (up to $200 savings).
