  1. I think the build location is a non factor. It's the luck of the draw. This is true with every product we buy IMO. You get a good one or you don't.

  4. As previously mentioned, this question has come up earlier. It provides an opportunity for personal politics and prejudice to be expressed. You may even read some attempts to make up "factoids" to support such beliefs. There is no differences in build quality.

  5. I saw 136 the other day with temps in the low 30's, and have seen it creep past 180 - 190 in the heat of the summer, probably has gone just past 200. Do you have a trans temp gauge in the Denali, or do you have to scroll through the DIC like the Silverado's to see the temp?

  6. If I lived in the city I might consider bigger wheels for a pavement queen truck. Living in the rural mountains of Colorado I wouldn't have a wheel bigger than 18 inches. I also believe the more side wall on a tire the more it absorbs road defects. Not to mention the extra cost of bigger diameter tires.

  7. Im not sure if it's right to put this all here or not. Here are a few post from doing mods to my 2019. First I did silver tailgate letters and removed the emblems, they come right off with fishing line and a blow dryer. Gm rear fender liners fit really nice and are worth the cash. Plus a set of plugs to go in the top of the bed rail to cover up the holes. Lastly a coat or Adam's ceramic coating on the wheels and every painted surface.

  12. Bottom is with the screen, yes. As far as I can tell it doesn’t effect the visual of the screen. It does “look” nicer. Easier to clean. Was $10 for 2 screens off of Amazon and I had some gift cards.

  14. This seems to be the most active thread devoted to this swap so thought I'd post in here even though I did it all in a Yukon. I did the full HMI, radio and Denali cluster upgrade to get android auto in my 2015 Yukon SLT. @GTPprix did the programming and everything is working perfectly as far as I can tell and it looks great. There are some quirky issues with my phone but it works great with the wife's phone so I don't think there's an issue with the system. I sourced all the parts used on car-part.com which took some time but saved me quite a bit of money. For the Yukon, the install isn't quite as straightforward as I thought it would be and I think it's a bit more complicated than the Silverado/Sierra. Removing and reinstalling the radio and HMI is a bit challenging due to how tight everything is. Smaller hands would have been helpful especially for the HMI. The cluster required removal of a lot more pieces than I thought and things would have gone a bit more quickly if I had fully lowered and extended the steering wheel right away. Overall the install took me about 2 hours but I was working slow making sure I didn't damage any interior pieces.

  15. strange.. I was told that the Mexican plant is machined and tooled exactly the same as the US plant. And if you don't think that those workers in Mexico are not going to do as good of a job as the American UAWs, think again. Getting a job at an assembly plant (that is all they are now, is just assembly plants) for a top auto maker down in Mexico is something people would kill for down there. I am quite certain that those that are working there are likely some of the best they can find and take pride in their work and take it seriously.

  16. Hi everyone! Finally registered after lurking for awhile. Upgraded from a 2018 Silverado LT to this great truck so far 2020 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4 X31 on 12/31/19. Loving the 10 speed on this truck as it shifts so smoothly. in just two weeks I have done a few mods including getting the GM 2 inch lift kit installed yesterday. A little dirty on a couple of pics since weather has been wet lately. First pic is when we picked it up. Second is when I dropped it off for lift kit install and rest after kit was installed. Very satisfied on the way it turned out! Highly recommended!

  17. This horse has already been beat to death on here, starting with the GMT900s (2007-2013) models. Not one iota of difference, except for political or racial bias on the part of certain observers. The "locally sourced parts" line is bull. Just like the "there's no automation in the Silao factory" line is bull. Go watch the YouTube videos of the Silao plant and tell me there is no automation. You make it sound like GM runs out to Jose's auto parts or the pick-a--part salvage yard down there when they need something. You can get a vehicle with a rattle or a leak built anywhere in the world. Sometimes, it's the luck of the draw. If you go down to Silao, it is a modern city with a modern airport and a big modern industrial area where there are many new plants where they make the axles and the other parts, just like they do up here. Everything is GM sourced and inspected. (Ford, FIAT, and other companies are doing the same thing.) Those are excellent jobs down there, so they get to pick from the best workers. People are waiting in line to work there. Compare that to the current UAW worker mood up here in America--one would have to question the quality of their work when there are so many reports saying the majority of the workers feel like they got screwed by both GM AND their union during the last contract negotiations/strike. I'm as patriotic as the next guy, no--make that more patriotic. I wish everything for sale in America was built here. But that being said, having Mexican-built vehicles in our fleet, I'd have to say that the ones from Silao are as good or better than the "American" ones. The main problems in the Silao vehicles have been with the AFM-equipped engines and various transmission problems, and most of those components were built in America, shipped to Silao, and installed there, so that's not a Silao problem, that's a GM problem.

  18. So the V-6 has the capability to get great fuel mileage with cylinder deactivation to make it a 4 cylinder. The 4 cylinder has a turbo to have the the power of a V-6. There’re playing with us. A few years ago you could get an E-85 capable 5.3 and get close to the 6.2 in power. Now they can go all the way down to one cylinder. I’ll keep watching till they figure it out. It is entertaining though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Nobody is going to be blown away by the build quality of these trucks from either plant, let’s be real here. ? Personally, I think the Mexican-made loaner I had was put together a bit better than my US-built truck (no rattles). But in fairness, my truck is an earlier built example. Luck of the draw probably fits the topic best.

  21. Since I didn’t purchase the model specific to this year model (re-used the one from my 09 Sierra) I did have to add foam tape to the front edge of the cover. Mine had a considerable gap at the front edge of the bed.

  22. Refers to the internal designation for the new generation/new body style that started in 2019. There were also 2019 double cabs in the old body style during the change-over process. Your 2017 is a K2 Before that there was GMT900, before that the GMT800 (which was the first ones to use the hydroformed front rails in the frame) Before that, different frame supplier and the 400 series.... Fwiw, GM refers to paint colours by the order code. (RPO code) Sometimes chev and gmc (and the other divisions) will use the same paint colour, and same rpo code, but label it with a different name. It's common for the shade of the colour to change every few years, and some colours are one year or part year colours. In any case, correct colour matching is done by the RPO code (order code). Pictures often GMC calls GJI Dark Sky Metallic Chev calls GJI Shadow Gray Metallic So this thread could have been called Dark Sky Metallic / Shadow Gray Metallic GJI wasn't available on 2017. Is yours 'Graphite Metallic'? If so, it's RPO code is GPA. (GMC called GPA Dark Slate Metallic) It's no longer available. The 2017 should have the label in the glove box that lists the RPO codes. They have moved the info to a QR code on the door post --- that can be read using a phone app. Of course any dealer (or gm chat / social media) can also run the vin and get a list of 'as built' codes.

  23. I can't answer your question, but could it be that the turbo 4 outweighs the V6 with its turbos and intercooler taking away a couple hundred pounds of payload? Seems odd to offer both of these engines being so close statistically. Seems very odd you can spec the V6 to move more with the 6L trans vs the 4cyl with the 8L trans.

  25. If you like the 22's, go with them. You are the one who will be driving the truck. Had 20's on my 14, and 22's on the last two trucks, not a whole lot of difference in ride. But, like mentioned above, tires make a huge difference, know this first hand swapping out the factory Bridgestone's on our Tahoe for a set of Michelin's. Night and day difference in every aspect. If you plan on doing any off road driving, just be realistic in your expectations, which holds true for any combo you might have.

  26. Not as much as Fort Wayne, Flint and Arlington (SUV's). People are cheaper than machines. Unfortunately Mexico is much like China in that respect. There is no OSHA so safety for workers is not a concern at all.

  27. So your saying that there is no automation at the Silao plant? I highly doubt this.

  28. II am on the opposite side with this conversation. I worked for GM and have owned many. I think you have to see the Silao plant vs Fort Wayne and Flint before stating they are all the same. Silao does not use all of the same components as north America. Many suppliers are local to that plant due to logistics and just in time inventory, so the tolerances and materials are not exactly the same. Some of the components like the powertrain and suspension are the same but interior, some body panels and paint are definitely inferior. Any assembly process that is automated up here is manual down there. Much more room for error especially in that plant. I would not buy a truck from Mexico due to quality issues as well as the fact that I am loyal to the UAW / American made products. With that said the vehicles that came out of OSHWA Canada were extremely high quality but GM stopped production up there because the CAW labor rate is higher than the UAW and Mexico. If GM had their way they would make all of them in China and ship them here. You earned your money, you have the right to spend it anyway you want, but until you go to Silao and watch how they build trucks, I will disagree that the quality is the same. I want to support the USA workers. My last 4 trucks were made in Fort Wayne.

  29. Five of my last six silverados were Mexico built and I had zero problems with any of them, not so with my 19 TB which was built in Ft. Wayne and had nothing but problems with it. As far a parts sourcing I would say the US built trucks use most of the same parts as the ones built in Mexico, only difference is the labor. My current one is a Mexico build and am so far very happy with it.

  30. Those are two independent circuits. My harness is wired to supply power to the charging lid. Based on your posted photo, I see that you have the 1st generation charging module. This is the reason it is not charging. GM Updated the module and is the 2nd generation now with a triple coil system. You can purchase this module/kit here. https://harnessdr.com/product/2014-2018-wireless-charging-module-kit-adapter/ I also have a limited supply of Factory inverter kits if you want to get the 110V outlet operational. Inverter kits ar won’t listed online as they are a very limited supply. PM me if you’re interested in that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  34. My dealer offered me a loaner. I’m not going back until this is confirmed fixed. Sick of it. I also have opened a case with GM - spoke to them today and they acted like they have never heard of this issue. Dealer called me today and said that GM has told them there is a possible fix coming Jan.17th. After all this I am doubtful. I’m in Canada so not sure if that changes things. 35. Since you mentioned it, I wanted to let you know that salt wrecks the pH of the entire environment, mainly the water. It’s a stupid plague and a symbol of man’s idiocy that an alternative is not feverishly pursued. My hometown in western Kentucky uses something based on beets, of all things, and does not use salt. It’s a big problem though. Huge.

  36. For those who want transparent trailer to work on conventional trailers, I have attached the trailer camera install location. Before purchasing the camera you may want to check this location on your trailer and see if it will work. You can mount the trailer camera in other locations but the transparent view will not be available. #iworkforGM Camera Install Instructions.pdf

  38. Removed the air dam. Pfft, who needs that extra 1 mpg on the highway ? I still need to remove the clips, and I might end up putting some black paint on the 10mm bolts that you can still see if you get low enough.

  39. I finally had a chance to open up the boxes and make sure they got everything. All the parts are here. No missing parts. Yayhoo. Still waiting on the UCA'S. Very stout looking pieces with some pretty nice welds. The u bolts and brake line brackets are unpainted so I'm going to paint them tomorrow. I also picked up my wheels/tires from my Ceramic Coating guy. 3 coats of Ceramic Pro. Chrome looks like a mirror. He said I could probably run them in the salt as long as I keep them clean but that's next to impossible this time of year. I'll wait. It's snowing as I type this. This is going to be a long six weeks waiting on the install. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  40. Just picked up a 2020 with the 3.0 diesel. It’s the LTZ trim. I’m absolutely blown away with this truck. The family and I take a lot of summer road trips, so looking forward to the MPG gains with the diesel. I’m in the camp of loving the interior. This truck is such a joy to drive.

  41. People have said the same about almost every single GM truck drop over the years. It's hated for a few months/year then they see more of them or more that are modified and people start to love them. I was the same way I pushed for a 2018 silverado because I couldn't stand 2019 then they grew on me. The new z71 tahoe I am not a fan of right now, but the rest I do like... we shall see the wife will be in the market for a new vehicle in the next 2-3 years. I'd like to get her into one if she likes it.

  48. Sounds like they are creating more problems then fixing. This is my fear with any big fix like this because i don't have very much confidence in these dealers anymore and how unknowledgeable many of the techs are these days. Most dealers now only have a couple of capable techs employed with the rest basically oil changers it seems.

  49. I know you guys will think I’m crazy but I fly for the Military in a fully digital cockpit. If we rush certain things on startup or change one step during the display boot sequence it can cause a number of issues that manifest during flight. This will cause us to either have to reset certain systems by pulling circuit breakers or shut down the aircraft and remove battery power then attempt to restart. Reading about the issue in that link seems like exactly the same issue. Most of these result around BUS driven electronics that require complex communication between different pieces of hardware. You might be mad that a $60k truck has these issues but I fly million dollar aircraft that experience the same issues.
