Has anyone ordered a '16 for their buy back replacement? Going thru it now and there's nothing in inventory that meets my criteria.

 

Also, I noticed something this weekend while towing the boat. The vibration was basically nonexistent in the console and was concentrated totally in the steering wheel. It's a fairly large boat so I'm sure the tongue weight is a few hundred pounds.

Dealer just called said truck was ready to be picked up. Pico test showed nothing..200 miles they drove only felt road vibration....Getting so frustrated...BBB and GM COMPANY NEXT....I WANT OUT OF THIS BS. DONT HAVE TIME TO KEEP DOING THIS CRAP.....ITS SO MESSED UP...SO FAR, 1ST TIME REBALANCE, 2ND VISIT 4 NEW TIRES, 3RD VISIT PICO...ABOUT 15 DAYS THEY HAVE HAD MY TRUCK AND NOTHING...THEY HAVE HAD IT LONGER THAN ME....

Wow, sucks man. Feel your pain, if they buy it back. Are you going to get a 2016 replacement truck or just walk away from the deal into a different brand? Now other question is when you get a replacement truck, Your warranty starts from 0 miles or on whatever miles you left over the old truck?

They bought back my 14 & I got a 16 replacement and am beyond happy....Yes your warranty starts fresh, its basically a new car purchase.

I have a 16 on order because there were no trucks around to replace my 14 with. Fingers crossed it not a shaker.

Old Bill now goes down the highway at any speed he wants knowing that vibrations were just all a bad dream. How is it now in the smooth Tundra lane?

.... However the SA said there was a software recall for the 4wd system, something about 4wd engaging at cold start (don't have the work order at the moment). After it was all done, I swear the truck drives smoother and the vibration greatly reduced, if not complete gone. Not sure if it was due to the software recall, or coincidence, or if it'll solve the vibration issue that everyone else is experiencing. Just thought I throw it out there.

 

 

That is interesting, I have always suspected the smooth road jitter software but hey a fix is a fix and if it works for you that is great !!!!

Yeah, keep crossing your fingers. I am sure it will have a major positive effect on the outcome. And if it is another shaker, go through this crap all over again.

anyone else here notice the rear axle isn't lined up with the body 100%? I noticed when putting on my mudflaps the right rear tire sits farther towards the rear by about a fingers width. Wonder if that has anything to do with alignment issues with the rear end?

They said sometime in mid to late jan so yes about 8 weeks.

Yeah, keep crossing your fingers. I am sure it will have a major positive effect on the outcome. And if it is another shaker, go through this crap all over again.

If you have a 16 on order stay on top of the dealer. I had one on order and after 8 weeks GM still hadn't picked up the order.

After I realized my vibration came back intermittently, I'm seriously considering trading in, I'm not sure for what though. Maybe a couple year old dmax? Hmm...

No insult was intended. I just find it hard to believe that you guys are willing to take yet another gamble, knowing that GM has done very little to address and eliminate these issues. There is someone on this forum who went through three different trucks hoping that he would finally get a good one, and they all had vibration issues. If vibration problems were as rare on these trucks as some claim, getting three trucks in a row with vibration issues would be like winning a lottery jackpot. I think the problem is a lot more common than it may appear.

 

If only 0.1% of these trucks had vibration problems, and assuming random distribution of the defective trucks in the whole population, then the odds of getting three vibrating trucks in a row would be 1/1000 X 1/1000 X 1/1000 which is 1 in a billion! These odds are lower than those for winning a power ball lottery jackpot!

      Yes I agree, its what amounts to free advertising to let people know about his UOA testing company, and not that there is anything wrong with that but certainly that is a motivator for putting out videos about the science of oil as well as other topics such as oil and air filtration etc. The interesting part I found with his last video is not only the physics behind the reason for the varying wear due to a diesels working torque range causing more bearing load and that higher viscosity oil is of benefit, it was also that the chemistry behind the GM Dexos 0W-20 and the Mobil Dexos licensed 0W-20 are far enough apart that its showing up with a difference in wear even though the two oils are matched in viscosity and in that comparison viscosity was not having the finger pointed at it.    There are a few youtubers out there or one anyway that I have watched a bit of who has gone through the pains of accessing various countries manuals for a certain engine platform and while in the US/Canada it may say use 0W-20 or what have you for some Toyota product, in some other countries it sings a very different tune for the very same engine with the typical traditional oil viscosity/ambient temperature charts to help choose which oil viscosity is correct for the conditions the vehicle will be used in and in some cases its taken an engine in a US manual that states only use 0W-20 as per warranty coverage and yet that same engine in certain other countries may have up to a 15W-40 etc oil option that meets the spec. Another words the guy who is driving through Death Valley or Phoenix and south weather at 120f is often being fed a line of bs by the US system that has forced vehicle companies to restrict the warranty to a specific low viscosity oil for anterior reasons as well as the long drain interval suggestions.    Thankfully youtube is free ( yet anyway ) for viewers to sift through information and of course comes with the good and the bad ( truth and lies ) and we can choose to turn off/not watch what a person finds is bs or just not interested in the topic.

      No doubt... But, as someone who doesn't pay for his services, but who has provided a few views/clicks on his Youtube platform, the data around the Mobil oil testing I think does have some value including to "freeloaders" like me.   A lot of what he's doing is likely showing the OE's work in their oil selection, something that many of us had kind of assumed was true all along, a good balance of both excellent protection and efficiency.

      Lake Speed is drumming up business for his company just by being in the spot-light so he has a vested interest in stoking the 0W-20 fire.  IMO
