Thanks again Tjay for looking into this for us. My XM expires again next week and if I can't get the $25 for 6 months then I will be left with SD card or CD. I can listen to my favorite stations if I am in town but a few miles out they either disappear or sound like crap. Funny thing is that my tuner will pick up stations really far away that my old truck would not even find when you scan but of course none of them come in clear.

They will provide a fix for it, last time it was a TSB.

Hello everyone. I have spent a TON of time reading this thread and wanted to know if anyone has some advise for me. I bought a 2014 Sierra SLT in October (used) it had 40k miles on it. I have this radio problem and its driving me nuts. I drive 15 minutes to work and the HD will go in and out every 30 seconds. Will these updates be available to someone without a manufacture warranty? What was the update with the headlights and HVAC? I'm starting to wonder if I made the wrong choice.

I looked at a couple of other bulletins (not those you mentioned) and they specifically state that they expire upon owners warranty expiration. But I think it depends upon the type of bulletin it is. For instance a safety recall may not expire where the rear slider window recall did when warranty expired. I'd call a local dealer or go by to find out for sure.

Turn your HD option off, that will help some.

come on you can't be serious… your just going to rollover and forget it!

 

It's the equivalent of stereo for christ sake.. Mono is not an option…

My radio is kinda weak but not that bad. Gets clear out in the country, but static in town. It actually seems to be improving. Maybe im just crazy idk.

What in the world are you talking about? I just gave you an option to help fix your HD problem till there is a fix and that is to turn it off. Sorry you don't like it but your in the same boat as the rest of us on this thread.

Jeff, this is the area for 2014 / 2015 / 2016 GM Trucks (Silverado and Sierra) issues, Radio Reception issues. Completely different radio platform hardware and software issues than yours. I had a 2011 Silverado and never had the issues that my 2014 does. I would say to disconnect the battery for a bit to reset the radio or hit up the 2012 Surburban forum section or take it to a dealer Wish I could help, but...

What in the world are you talking about? I just gave you an option to help fix your HD problem till there is a fix and that is to turn it off. Sorry you don't like it but your in the same boat as the rest of us on this thread.

Alright guys, play nice.

 

I got an email the other day and a call from GM today. The new radio module is headed to my dealership and should be there today or tomorrow morning. Now the only bad thing is I am out of town until after the new year so I wont be around to have the new module installed or to test it out so that I can let GM know if it is working or not. Even if I could get in tomorrow it wont give me enough time to check the new programming and validate if the multi-pathing issue has been resolved or not.

 

GM knows at this point from me that this needs to be the correct and proper fix. I now have 2 years of my time invested in it and while I can appreciate that there may be some hurdles to jump thru since they are at the mercy of the supplier I really think they (GM) should have lit a fire under the suppliers butt to get this fixed long ago. I advised the GM executive board today that if the fix does not work that GM can have my truck back via buyback and I will order a 2016 truck and then they will have their very own test truck here in Oklahoma to continue to use at their mercy.

 

This wouldn't be so bad if the manufactures didn't wrap everything into one item, now you can even swap the radio out to fix the issue via aftermarket. The truck has been awesome other than this nagging issue which is even more sad in my eyes.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
