I bought a new 2014 sierra slt and am having issues with my headlights. When I turn the truck off and lock it, intermittently the leds and turn lights stay on as well as the rear lights. The only way I can turn them off is if I take the truck for a drive and return home to only hope that they will turn out. took it to the dealer and they said there is nothing wrong. while this is happening if the truck is on the daytime running light is on in the cluster. Ive tried everything I can think of, turning lights off manually as I always have it on auto, making sure it is engaging in park everytime, ive even turn off exit lighting and tried to put the emergency/parking brake on as this is supposed to turn off lights. the only thing I can think of is that the wires for the parking lights(?) is shorting with a 12v hot wire and when I take it for a drive a bump will separate the wires. anyone else having this issue or have any recommendations?

Oh damn, could be something in the computer. For them to be on that long isn't normal so you should try a different dealer or something. Also the headlight light in the gauges shouldn't be on the whole time, only when the headlights are on, unless you have them manually turned on. That light shouldn't be on for just the daytime lights.

Has anyone found a fix for the headlights??? I have had card from the 60s with way better lighting than this. I can't see where I am going once I get out in the mnts on high or low beam!! If the truck didn't have fog lights it would be i drivable!!!!!! At night

Ah you mean "undrivable" at night, right? Must be undrivable, that's even stronger words than I've used on this subject. Judging from PMs I've received from a multitude of GM customer reps the agency believes these lights are just fine.

 

Perhaps a pole of 14/15 Sierra owners could provide valuable feedback to show just how some owners feel about this issue.

Anyone who says these lights are just fine has never driven one of these trucks at night outside of the city!!!!! This truck has set new standards for going back to worse than trucks before it. The list is to long for this thread but PROFESSIONAL GRADE IS NOT WHAT I WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE THIS TRUCK!!

I honestly think the lights are fine. I live in a rural suburb, it gets pretty dark at night, and I don't have any trouble seeing at night. I've also driven long stretches of rural interstate at night, no issues there either. Could they be better? Sure. But I don't think they are garbage, I've driven other vehicles with older styled reflector headlights that were worse.

 

I've found that turning down the interior brightness of the dash and main screen helps tremendously while driving at night. The little scroll wheel on the left hand side by the headlight control. The new screens in these trucks put off A LOT of light. And this dilates your eyes to compensate. By reducing the light output, it reduces the amount your eyes need to dilate and therefore you can see the road much better because they are not being strained.

 

I also always turn the fogs on when driving at night, regardless of the conditions. They don't add much but they do add some. I know some members have replaced the fogs entirely with a dedicated driving light that they keep on in tandem with the main headlights.

I am with Fondu, I live in a rural area and the lights are just fine. I turned the dash lights down, aimed the lights up slightly and replaced the 55w bulbs with 65w bulbs and I can see just fine.

Post the 65w bulbs part number for good measure TJay. :thumbs:

In other words you think that the lights are not fine, since it was necessary to change the bulbs.

 

Turning down the dash lights definitely helps.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      Seems to be Missing a lot of Updates

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.

      Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.

      That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
