Just to let you all know... I hit the chip @ 111 mph after the second oil change ~8500 mi

Posted

It's actually 98 mph.

I've driven 101 on a flat road according to the speedometer on my 2015 Sierra Denali 6.2. It didn't cut out when it got there either, I sat there without issue. I bought it brand new with 0 miles and it has a Borla ATAK catback exhaust, Elite Engineering catch can, AIRAID dry synthetic filter in the stock air box, and AIRAID intake tube.

This was through the middle of the desert of Utah where the speed limit is 80 mph. Flat road as far as you can see on a smooth highway without another soul in sight, so nobody lecture me on speeding. I wouldn't drive like that in a populated area.

Hmm, I'm not following that one. I can see the engine RPM's the same at those 2 speeds, but the driveshaft would be spinning like crazy at 100mph.

Not necessarily if you are in the top gear. The driveshaft will spin faster in any gear when tthe engine RPM is taken to the redline manually, except this would be for short periods only. The key here is that these driveshaft U joints are not designed to take sustained high speed operation.

My 14 with 6.2 is totally stock and just did a sped run on a Utah freeway. Over 110 for a short burst when the road was clear and no rev limiter. Also no vibration.

good to know i was planning on removong my limiter as well as i will be on the autobahn, clearly going to have to re think this through.

I would think that the drive shaft RPM would be tied to the rear and axles speeds not the engine RPM at 100 mph the tires would spin faster than at lower speeds thus causing a higher RPM on the drive shaft . The biggest issue would be anything the slightest bit out of balance would be exaggerated at the higher speeds and the differential that is not designed to operate at such high rpms may cause issues .The other concern would be operating a vehicle at high speeds that the suspension and brakes may not be up the job its a pickup not a Ferrari

My brother has a 2014 Denali with the 6.2L and it does not cut out at 100 MPH.

I have a 2014 Sierra with the 5.3L and it does cut out at 100 MPH.

We have speed limits of 85, so I need to get a tune to remove my 98 governor. Really sucks trying to pass a truck moving at 88 mph on a single lane and only having a couple mph over him.

I traded my 2008 5.3L Silverado Crew in for a 2015 LTZ 6.2L 4x4 Crew in May. I bought the 2015 with 6.2L so to have more muscle with pulling my 25' camper. Does great btw. But, started reading towing comparisons between F-150 3.5L ecoboost and GM 6.2L and invariably to Ford would have better times in 1/4 mile pull-off. In the analysis, writers would usually comment that the GM 6.2 limiter later in the test than the Ford 3.5. So, this caused my antennas to perk up questioning "what's this limiter about"? Anyway, after some noodling on this these comparative tests reminded me of drag racing back in the day when small block Chevy 283/327's with 4.11 rear ends ruled street racing. Would hit about 95 ~ 100mph 2/3 of the way and then flatten out. Anyway, now that I understand the game - which is all about which truck has the higher differential ratio, these comparative towing contests are useless as far as I'm concerned. Just rambling, sorry :) oh, btw, love my 6.2L, pulls my camper like it's not even there.

Is your 6.2 a max tow?

"Is your 6.2 a max tow?"

No, don't have the Max Tow package. Differential is a 3.23 which apparently is kinda rare. Actually, I'm glad I don't have the MT as mpg is very good with 8 speed tranny matched with 3.23 rear end. And, it tows my 25' travel trailer great (approx 6,500 lbs).

Btw, I have about 12k miles on my truck and to-date have not experienced any of the vibrations described in this blog, knock on wood :)

I don't think you can call 3.23 'rare'.

It is the standard ratio used with the 8 speed /6.2L combination.

I was just curious which ratio you were towing with. My 15 was also a 6.2/8sp/3.23. It also towed like a champ, but my tow loads have been considerably smaller.

Both it and current ride have been vibration free. Both on 20's. last one was a z71 on SRA's. This one is not z71, and is on eagles.

Ok, I retract the word "rare". Does that make it all better now?

Concerning the drive shaft coming apart; think pole vault - in a full size truck - at 100+mph - would be quite a ride I think, heh heh, whahoo !

    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
