Offroad RPM concern

Hi forum,

 

I have a 2014 Silverado Z71 5.3 and with all the rain lately, I took it out for some fun in the mud for the first time. In 2wd while spinning the tires with the traction control and stability control off, the RPMs do not keep. Meaning when I revved the engine, it seems the Silverado said "no thanks" and then drops the RPMs back down to around 1700 or so before allowing it to rev again, and this process repeats over and over. To get out of the mud hole I put the truck in 4wd high but the same thing happened. I did not try 4wd low. Any idea why this is happening? Did I miss turning something off?

you need to turn STABILITRACK off - Hold down the traction control button for around 15 seconds.

Were you in D or M? I'd go for M and set it to M2 or M3. If at all you go over 35mph (all four wheels read it through the computer) Stabilitrak automatically turns on.

I had the two lights on the dash light up, do I need to hold it down longer?

 

Yes, I was in D. I will have to try the M2/3 next time, I did not think to use that.

Even with traction control off. Stabiltrac is still on. You can disable stabilitrac by holding the traction control button for 10 seconds.

 

But stabilitrac will come back on automatically when your tires go over 35 mph.

Haha that's a good way to put it. I will give 4low a try next time too and see if that makes a difference.

One said t/c and the other was a triangle with some squiggly lines? If so, sounds like you held it long enough. Pressing and holding the traction button for 7-10 seconds shuts both off. Stabilitrak will turn on over 35mph (sorry for re-stating this part).
