Tapping sound from passenger side

Hi all,

I have a new 2018 Chevrolet Silverado LS Z71 Crew Cab with less than 500 miles. All is great except for a tapping sound that seems to come from the passenger side of the truck.

  1. It sounds exactly like something is lightly tapping on the windshield, but nothing is there.
  2. The sound appears to be higher up in the cab, not like it's coming from behind the dash (but that could be an illusion).
  3. There's not a rhythm or pattern to the sound. It just taps sporadically while the car is moving.
  4. It doesn't happen while the car is sitting still, only while in motion.
  5. Speed or acceleration doesn't have any influence on the sound or rhythm.
  6. I thought it could be something in the speaker, but I turned the radio off, and it still happens.
  7. I disconnected all phones and Bluetooth devices.
  8. I turned off all the AC controls and fans to see if that was it, but no luck.
  9. I looked all through the cab for anything that appeared to be loose.
  10. I did hold my keychain to see if it was possible that was tapping.

I'll take it to the dealership next week if I can't find anything and report my findings, I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this unique tapping sound.

Thanks for any help.

With this unique issue and yours being a brand new truck, hopefully the dealer can solve your noise problem.

Good luck!

I hope the dealer can find something, I just got a 2018 Silverado CC myself. It kind of sounds like it could be one of the connectors/ cables inside the door that didn't get held down properly bouncing around and tapping against the door panel. I could be way off though... I hope you figure it out!

Don't know about the newer trucks, but the GMT900s had an issue with the trim around the windshield making a tapping noise, especially if the truck had a hood deflector installed

I know it sounds silly.. but check the seat belt.  If the seat is all the way back, the seat belt will hang up sideways and the plastic around the seat belt will tap against the plastic on the pillar.  Happens to me all the time someone gets out of the passenger side.

Good Point. I notice this as well.

I have a 18 cc with 600 miles on it and  I have the same thing Going on the exact scenario is you were saying  but Because I work on cars I can pick up noises pretty well from where they’re coming from and I found out that it was the center bezel Around the radio was not cliped in all the way  mine would do it when accelerating in between a  gearshift when the vehicle flexed a little it would tap or pop
