Dim the lights while driving

Hi all!!  I just picked up a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 and am still learning all the features of this truck.  One thing I am finding difficult to figure out is how to dim the lights when you are driving.  And I don't mean going from high beams to low beams.  I mean turn off the main lights and just have the running lights on.  This is a courtesy thing when driving through any checkpoint where there are guards.  (Helps them keep their eye sight)

Seems that just turning the knob to the off position does not turn them off while driving.  (Does work while parked.)  Any suggestions?  I have attached a pic of the light knob.

Try turning off the light switch and turning on just your fogs. This leaves the led drl, the grill light and the fog lights.... not sure what it does at night though.

Just turn the switch to the first position past "Auto." This will turn on just your park lights (you can still turn on fogs if you need to). I do this a lot when I'm parked on the street and don't want to shine into neighbor's windows.

Turning to the off only works in park you say?  So in gear, if you flick the switch back to the left of AUTO, it doesn't turn the lights off while in gear, only in park?

Did you buy the truck new or used?

Where do you live that you have to drive through checkpoints with guards?  Iraq?  Also, the setting you're looking for is to the right of auto.

if only there were some document that explained how to use the features in your new truck...

Any military installation has guards, hence the need to dim the lights.  I did get the truck used in Florida but, according to the documentation, mine must be from Canada....

Yeah, your daytime rules are different than ours. But the OP wants to temporarily turn off the headlights at night and only have the DRL on.

Entrance to military bases here in the USA (and elsewhere) have checkpoints/guard shacks that you have to stop at and be cleared to proceed.

Also- it is a courtesy thing to turn off your headlights if you are in a truck while in a drive thru line so as to not blind those in front of you who may be in cars or vehicles lower to the ground.
