Hi.

Vehicle: 1996 GMC K2500 Suburban 7.4 Lt.
VIN: 3GKGK26J4TG511185

I need to buy the oxygen sensors and my auto parts store is asking if I have a 4L60-E transmission.

Would be grateful if anyone could help me find out the type of automatic transmission in my truck. Based on the VIN, Is it a 4L60-E ?

Thank you.

Ask parts guy for pics of pan gaskets, take a knee, give a look under truck,or Google pan gaskets for 4l60e,4l80e

I was afraid to say,my luck it would be opposite of what I say,Soo many variables, the old" empty the parts bin "when changes happen, and rpo codes in glovebox will tell you,not vin

Pretty much anything 3/4 ton or 1 ton related always has the larger/beefier transmission.

Never seen a 4L60e installed in heavy duty frame.

Excellent information. I can see I have number 7.

Thanks!

Trans has nothing to do with O2 selection. It's a 7.4 that's all you need. The only thing that might come into play on the occasional vehicle,is the length of the wiring pigtails on the original O2s. Simple to measure if necessary

A 454 is going to run a 4L80e.

The weak 4L60e would have already died.

Right.  Simple to answer, a 454 (7.4L) will have a 4L80E.

And as you go one to say, the K2500 (3/4 ton) will have a 4L80E with either the 5.7 or 7.4.

Parts store guys ain't what they used to be.
