I'm experiencing a terrible situation where most (if not all) southern California Chevrolet and GMC dealers are required to sell every new 2021 Silverado/Sierra pickups for OVER MSRP. None of the salesman or manager is willing to budge on price. Some are as high as $5,000 dealer markup, regardless of trim. Trail-Boss or AT4 as high as $7,500 dealer markup. Buying at invoice price is totally dead-deal at this moment, and dealers ask me to leave the premise immediately. They all stated truck shortage or chip shortage, whatever the reasons. Pay at MSRP sticker price exact is a rare case-by-case basis only at this moment.

 

Is the inventory shortage really that bad nationwide?

 

What about other US states? Do you have this same issue? It's possible it may be a California only state problem, due to overpopulation, and it's not a problem with other US states at all. What about Arizona and Texas? Were you able to buy for invoice (or below) for 2021 models?

I believe it's nationwide at this point. Many have posted that they are selling their trucks for more than what they paid new. 

 

Hate to speculate but I fear it will get worse before it gets better. 🤷‍♂️

Buy a Toyota if this is GM's new way to sell a truck.🤔

 

Let the lot know what you are doing, then bring back the Tundra and show them your new truck.

 

I am one of the most loyal GM people you will find, but if they do not want to deal, or take my money, no problem at all going to brand X

They are selling below MSRP. I bought a 2500 AT4 there in February. The discount has decreased by about 3,000 since then but there is still a discount.

 

That premium above MSRP is the dealership not GM.

I picked up a 21' 1500 AT4 Duramax Carbon Pro last month for about $9K off MSRP.

Apparently the HD's aren't seeing similar discounts.

Same thing as for HD pickups too. All come with $5,000 - $10,000 dealer-markups. I guess it's a California state problem itself rather than nationwide inventory, but I need your confirmation first in your state. Are you seeing (or hearing) over MSRP only transaction for new Silverado/Sierra from your local GM dealer?

 

California has the highest number of high-mileage drivers, highest turnover for new vehicles due to expired leases, high-mileage Uber/Lyft drivers, higher per capita income, undocumented immigrants needing vehicles, higher birth rate, and etc. Over MSRP transactions only from certain car makers have happened before in California's history, actually, when I was growing up.

 

So, where can I order a new Sierra at a GMC dealer for a little over invoice? Or, am I out of luck, and I can only order in the state of Arizona? I seriously doubt the small towns there would sell for over MSRP only. My #1 goal is to find one at near invoice, or $1,000 off MSRP before rebates. What do you think?

The dealer I bought my truck from in NC is offering 4,400 off of MSRP. They only have 6 trucks.

Chevrolet has 4400 off MSRP right now. I ended up getting my 2021 RST with a loaded out interior and the 6.2l for around 9k off not including my down payment this past Saturday. Brown Chevrolet in Del Rio, TX. I live about 4.5hrs away from them.

I'd steer clear of any dealers claiming chip/truck shortage and marking up prices over sticker. Yes it's harder to find certain trims/options but you can find them.

I believe its Stealerships in the Cities..  Check pricing on the same truck at other dealerships  out away from the City. Its what i had to do to find the Truck i wanted. Not the Truck they wanted me to buy..

Not all dealers are doing this.  This is not a GM requirement to sell at a higher than MSRP price.  This sounds like some shitty dealers taking advantage of the shortage and demand of trucks.

 

I just bought a truck last week (AT4 with 3.0).  almost 10k off sticker.  With the good rebates that GM offers right now it is putting even more pressure on what inventory there is.

i just picked up a 2021 lt trailboss with the 6.2 yesterday, last one in the area on a 250 mile radius from niagara falls ny (well there was 2 others, but they were black). the dealers around here that usually have 200-400+ trucks, have 10, and most are base customs with the 4 banger. most dealers here are now msrp, minus rebate, and add back in dealer fees. the dealer i got mine from, was in the middle of no where, and had 3 up level truck, and took about 1k off the truck and then the rebate. but likely they last truck ill buy from that dealership, the finance manager was a royal richard being i had my own financing from my credit union, he did about everything he could to try a sell it if someone came walking in the door. even the salesguy wasnt happy with how his finance guy was.

Requirement?  LMAO.  No such thing.  

 

Its greedy dealers taking advantage of the market and low inventory.  

 

Plus incentives are low right now as well.

Hang on I think a 2x4x8 will soon be in $20 territory, anybody wanna bet on $100 for a sheet of plywood?

Really like my 2024 2500hd sle doublecab now with 85,500 miles.  I checked the oil today at 4800 miles since last oil change and barely reading on the stick.  I don't care if GM says it's Acceptable adding a quart every 2000 miles because that is 100% BS, It is not a 1966 Harley Shovelhead! Sounds like it's setting up a future failure like I had with my 1500 6.2l. Other than oil consumption problems, I really like the 6.6l gas and 10 speed is really nice.  Towed a light 4000 pound trailer last week and averaged 14 mpg.  I was pretty impressive that a 7300 pound gas truck did 14mpg towing, Later-
    • Long Term Cold Cycle Limited Testing   Back to the 1990's and XOM's million mile test. Since then there have been others and there will be more. Schaeffer's, AMSOIL to name two. These two links (above) provide the technical reasons for engine wear. In a nut shell, and by a large margin, cylinder wear is what takes out most motors and even with a pre-oiling system that part of the engine is dry enough on cold starts and cold warm up to pierce Stribeck.   So when you put a motor, or a car, on a dyno for a million miles stopping only for oil changes, (yes fuel is uninterrupted) or break down maintenance, you are depriving the test of the most important part of it's wear cycle. Yes a million is then a pretty easy walk even for a mineral oil under those conditions.    How about cleanliness during the long test cycles? Same thing. Varnishes that stick rings and insulate parts are laid down by repetitive 'heat cycles'. It's the cool down the precipitates the varnishes. These long runs also hinder acidic attack caused by cold start richness and less than optimal cold start ring sealing. They hinder water formation and enhance breathing of the crankcase; the petri dish of acid formation, the first step in sludge formation, amalgamation and precipitation. These motors are also monitored and controlled for water and oil temperatures to within the "normal operating range".      https://www.swri.org/sites/default/files/sequence-iiih-test.pdf Note the test sequence in some boutique oils literature for testing, API IIIH, is not the standard used for the ILSAC G7 testing. Does that mean it is irrelevant? No, not as used. As used as a 'visual guide' it makes it's point. The G7 weighted piston deposit minimum is lower.      Back to Schaeffer's. That was a cyclical test of an engine in fleet service and not a dyno mule and if you saw the video it was not mirror clean but wear was low.    There are oils like BioSyn and other 'Renewable" source oils that taught cleanliness and have proven themselves in fleet testing. Havoline an other example.    The newest ILSAC G-7 test prioritize cleanliness, LSPI mitigation and fuel economy OVER WEAR. In comparison Porsche C30 Specification Verses ILSAC G-7 Specification below:      Some will balk that this graph isn't apples to apples and I will challenge that in that this graph represent the SPECIFICATION and not the any One Oil Performance.   It is absolutely possible to minimize wear, maximize cleanliness and mitigate LSPI etc., It just isn't cheap and currently I see none that are not walking toward profit over performance.     
    • I don't think you will need a split, separate product, etc., the OBD port should be able to deliver everything you need. Since your device would be plugged into it all the time, it wouldn't miss anything.    Hardware in this case will be the easiest part of your project - ELM 327 devices will already deliver all the data you need. Reporting/software is where your advantage/marketability is.
