I replaced the brakes with A/C Delco heavy duty semi metallic with new sensor and pads. A whole bunch of warning lights when off. Had the truck towed to the dealer will be inspected Monday. That photo is not from my truck but you get the idea. So WHAT TROUBLES ME ASIDE from the lights and tow. Is the inside drivers pad was worn to the metal the rest were about 40% left.

The brake pads were super easy to change. Remove 2 cotter pins, remove 2 retaining pins, the pads slide right out after slowly pushing the calipers back in. Easy brakes I ever replaced. I have replaced 50 sets or better since I was 16. The sensor a little bit of a pain but what electrical item isn't at the connector. Slides right back in on the pad side good design on Chevy's part.

Truck: 2019 High Country 1500 6" Rough Country lift and 35" Fury County Hunter R/T sitting on 22's. Just under 25k on it.

I saw a thread about pumping the pedal to 3/4 then fully depressing and repeating until full pedal pressure is achieved before starting the vehicle this may take several times pumping up the brakes before it works.

Same thread also talked about clearing codes then restarting. I wish i had thought of that prior to having to towed. I was tired I guess.

Maybe the connector came undone? Did the pedal still feel ok when the light warning came on? Im thing wire rubbed against something or came unplugged?

No it seemed fine aside from being hard to push. I checked the connector and put electric tape around it just to be sure.

I don't think you can just push the caliper back in on these trucks the way it used to be done. Not saying it can't be done. Just that something in the new brake system doesn't like it done that way.

You're probably right.  Anytime I do brakes on a vehicle with ABS, I push the calipers back while opening the bleeder.  The ABS controllers, don't like having fluid pushed back through them.

On the rears, yes.  The parking brake being electronic, you have to place the caliper into service mode.

I'd start easy and double check you've got the sensor clipped in all the way to the pads, the connector as well.  Also check the orientation of it.

 

Otherwise, you will need a code reader that can read all systems (BlueDriver or OBDMXLink) and see what codes are tripping the message.  

 

On the pad wear, we are seeing it at work as well (Western NY).  Both the front and rears.  Seems to be from pads binding hard in the calipers, as well as these "FNC Coated" rotors they are using that rust right the hell out.

Just encountered this issue. Replaced front brake pads on 2021 Chevy Tahoe, there are no electrical connectors directly connected to the caliper, only the pad wear sensor. Brakes replaced easy, and installing a new pad wear sensor was also easy. I have ensure proper installation of the pad wear sensor about 5 times now. Connected scan tool, and reset pad life. Issue is still present. DTC is “P25A2:00- Brake system control module requested MIL illumination” I have no idea what this means. I cannot clear the code.

You've got more codes you aren't seeing.  Should be some codes starting with a "C".  You need to find out what ones are in the computers.

There are 4 code families in GM vehicles. P, U, C and B.

Doing your own work then you need a scan tool that can read all 4 code families along with some bidirectional service mode capability to be able to do a proper repair / diagnosis. Or pay someone to use theirs.

i am about to do pads on my 2020. I have 98,000miles on it and screen shows 50%. i do notice a decrease in breaking since i bought it. My question is did you start by putting the system in the correct mode before starting? I've seen multiple videos about holding the e-brake button, then hitting the brakes and e-brake again to put it in service mode.  Can anyone confirm they did this before work and still got the codes?

I clicked on this site when I read the headline that said 43mph top speed break system failure. That's what the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 reads on the dashboard after installing new rear break pads. And the truck will not go over 43mph. Anyone know the solution to my dilemma. Please and Thank you, WOODSZ

I fixed my by driving it around for 3 hot/ cool down cycles and the ABS and brakes lights went away.  The service engine son light remained on, but limp mode went away. The engine light can be reset with a $30 odbII scanner.

Short answer to what my fix was; clear the C116C-5A - “Front Brake Pad Wear Signal Circuit - Not Plausible” code.


I was struggling with this for a while. The front pad wear sensor wore down (inner pads sticking and wearing quicker, just like the rears I replaced about 6 months ago).

 

Replaced the pads, rotors, and wear sensor. Started the truck and had 7 ABS codes and truck went into a 43 MPH limp mode. After working the brakes to try to restore good brake pedal pressure, I drove around a bit and nothing. 
 

Cleared the generic P25A2 code, no change. Then looked at the ABS specific codes and decided to clear the wear sensor code. All ABS codes then cleared. I then cleared the P25A2 code successfully and no more lights on the dash, solid braking again, and no more limp mode.

So, does putting the truck in service mode before attempting to work on it keep these codes from tripping? Or not.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
