Question for those with lifts.  I’ve got a ‘17 GMC Denali with the Magride system & just undecided on which lift to go with.  I’m pretty sure the that the Fabtech 4” Uniball lift is for me but part of me wonders if the 6”BDS lift is worth it too.  Don’t know why BDS doesn’t have a  4” lift available for the Denali trucks & only their 6” lift is compatible with the Magride system.  

 

Looking to run 305/55R20 BFG KO2’s.  The Fabtech website states that their lift would fit 295/55r20.  Anyone know for sure if the 295’s are the max for their 4” lift or will 305’s fit?  

 

For reference, my truck has a 2” front level & 285/55r20’s on it right now.  

 

EDIT:  The more I look around the more I’m thinking a 6” lift & 35’s is what I want.  Any ride advantages of the 6” BDS over say the Fabtech 6” Gen 2?  I do like that the Fabtech doesn’t increase front track width.

I ran the 4” Fabtech knuckle lift and ran 305/55/20 on a 20x9 0 offset wheel and had very slight rub on the back of the front wheel wells, just gave it a little love with the ole hammer and all was good.

What’s up guys.. giving a little heads up to my friends running Mcguaghys lifts/ control arms that they just released a new product that was one of the only things that bothered me that now has been resolved. It’s a billet balljoint cover for the upper control arm that really finishes it off nice. I actually started machining these myself but then in talking with them they took it to the next level. So if you are running Mcguaghys uppers and don’t like looking at that ugly balljoint pick up a set!

5 years later and I don't think I'll ever get tired of this truck.

 

6" bds coilovers fuel vector 18x9 and toyo rts 35x12.5

Im not in need yet, but would like to start researching the options for my coilovers. I have the Zone 6" lift and have the large spacers on my stock ones. Ive seen other lifts that have full length coilovers(aftermarket) without the spacers and was wondering what options are available to consider when i change my out for some that wont require the spacer.

 

What should i consider?

Finally bit the bullet, made a decision and ordered my parts.  Now have a Fabtech 6” Gen II Magneride lift, set of grey Fuel Rebel 20x10 -18 wheels wrapped with 35x12.50r20 Toyo Open Country AT III’s headed my way.  Cost me a little more than what I originally planned to spend, but it'll be worth it in the end. 

 

I’m terribly impatient so the wait for the stuff to arrive is gonna kill me.

I like the fox coilovers on my 6" bds. Zone is the same company but I'm not sure how easy it would be to add to your truck.

I can get a BDS 6", Fox 2.0 performance shocks, and add a leaf for $1,850 shipped.

or a McGaughys 7-9" Premium Silver, for around $1,915, shipped.

It really comes down to how high you're looking to go.  6 inch lifts are very common and people who have them usually are needing clearance for off-roading and of course the looks.  Not taking away from much taller lifts, a lot people who lift their trucks wished they lifted it higher....lol.   So, my opinion....go with the Mcgaughys.   I have the Cognito 10-12" set to 11.5" in the front and 10" in the back with Fox 2.5 Reservoir shocks and deaver leaf springs.IMG_3487.thumb.jpeg.efd9ee34315f67f7d52846a26b66e27e.jpeg

Anyone have any insight into the vibration I am getting in 4 Auto and 4 Hi after installing a BDS 4" lift?  The transfer case was smooth as butter prior to the lift.  The vibration is almost like a groan that can be felt in the transfer case upon acceleration between 10-30 mph.  The shop is stating that I will need a CV (dual cardan) front driveshaft as the pinion angle and prop shaft angle has changed and the u/joint angles are no longer in phase.

 

Yet, it seems there are plenty of others running 4" and 6" lifts that don't require a CV front driveshaft and have no vibrations in 4 Auto and 4 Hi.  And then there are the others that are stock and have the same vibrations.  ?‍♂️

My original suspension lift was 7” FTS kit.  I did have a little vibration with the stock front drive shaft.   I went taller with a Cognito 12” lift and opted for the double cardan drive shaft and problem solved.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
