Shake or Vibration Issues

As of today, 71 days owned, 31days of that was in service. Almost all of the other 40 days has been waiting for service calls. 1712 miles, Not by choice I put a 1000 miles on it (only vehicle). The rest is from back n forth to dealer and test drives.

Sounds quite NORMAL to me.

Any update on the GM shim number? My 15 is in for;

- Vibration

- Transmission pump noise

- Crack in the front exhaust pipe

- Rear main oil leak

- Drivers seat cushion not aligned

In the vibration, I informed the dealer (where I purchased from) that the rear differential had 1.25Qts of fluid in it when changed @ 5000 miles. In that time, I had put about 1000 miles on it towing a 4200lb trailer at highway speeds, with the occasional steep grade. Now the truck vibrates and makes noise from the rear. The Service manager informed me that all the Silverados do it and it's normal. They have no plans for further investigation or even inspect the rear gear for damage due to the fluid being low for so long. It is scary at times on the interstate, almost to the point of feeling numb due to the vibration.

I have owed many GM vehicles since I started driving in '94. This truck is by far the most disappointing of them all. Sure, it's a great looking truck with a great interior, but I paid for a truck I was told I could rely on and this is not even close. Why GM, why did you have to screw this up??? You could have made something great.

What is the customer complaint number that is the most responsive to customers? I really wanted this truck to work out, but the dealer service department has pretty much given up on trying to fix any of these complaints because they only have a 50% success rate, so why bother.

Also wondering what cab/bed configuration you have? I am wondering if there are different parts (shim degrees) for different configs.

Took my wife to lunch today and this is the first time she's really gotten to ride in it since we purchased it. She made the comment while we were at a red light that it vibrates/shakes like it's about to die and asked me if I had noticed it. Looks like a trip to the dealer soon.

If it only shakes/vibrates at idle, you are lucky. Check all plug wire boots to make sure they are l tight before you take it anywhere.

The shims are installed between the leaf springs and axle housing to raise the pinion angle. Someone asked if I had tried 4X4 yet. My truck is 2wd. I have also read some post from people not believing pinion angle can change or cause vibration. If you've ever put a lift on a truck one thing that thet come with are wedge shims to correct the angle so there is no vibration.

Did they put them in the front side of the spring or the rear side? I had some put in the front side of mine to push the pinion down and they also raised the transfer case up 3/4'' and it has gotten rid of my vibration under acceleration from 72mph on up. My vibration would only start to come in when I was accelerating through 72mph and keep accelerating or if I was doing 75ish and floored it. What was happening was the pinion was rolling up under hard load and torque at that high of speed and was getting the drive shaft u-joint angles way out of spec causing the rumbling vibration a was getting. This could be what is happening to others also but only at a slower speed and not under acceleration. The angles might be fine when measured but when going down the highway with torque against it the pinion is rolling up and the angles are off.

I still have the vibration in the steering wheel, can that be from the pinion angle?

Mine does not do the vibration at all at any speed, even above 70-75. In fact, I noticed today when I was cruising between 70-75 that the truck felt smooth, no wheel shake or anything. Mine just does it while at idle and in gear.

^{Interesting, I picked up my truck after a lot of work (transmission clunk and vibration concerns) and I am a little baffled by the repair order.}

^{1. Confirmed clunking noise per PI1450 (Snap, Pop, Click, Tick or Clunk Noise on Launch) dated March 27, 2015 and applicability of truck . Replaced transmission. PI1450 is applicable to the 8 speed (8L90 tranny (RPO M5U)), but my truck is the 6L80 (6 speed tranny). I called the parts department to confirm that the replacement tranny was in fact a 6 speed which it is the right one. The truck shifts a lot better, but I only have a few miles. I will know more after a few hundred miles, but so far so good.}

^{3. Shim motor mounts for idle vibration under PIP5211D (Jan 20, 2016), Rough Idle in Drive}

^{I cannot confirm that the vibration is gone at 60 mph, but it does feel better in the 35-45 mph range. The idle vibration is not present right now when stopped and in drive. The tranny shift points are much firmer without the lugging under load due too upshifting to soon.}

^{4. I replaced all 4 tires. Michelin LTX M/S when the truck was relatively new, but found one of the tires had a high road force variation. It was replaced today.}

^{I am keeping my fingers crossed that the vibration between 60-75 mph will be eliminated.}

Most if not all trucks do this. I know when I'm sitting at a light the truck feels at times its about to turn off then it picks back up.

I took my truck back to the dealer last week. No work was performed on my new truck. They informed me "this is the way they drive/ride. I asked how to get out of this truck, they offered a small trade in value, as a used truck, less than two months old and less the 1800 miles. (they don't seem to want it back?). I am experiencing a high frequency vibration in the floor of the truck and in the gas pedal and break pedal. I test drove two other new trucks in an effort by the salesman to explain "this is the way they drive/ride" they had issues as well. Seems to be a bigger issue for GM than just my new Truck. I am asking for someone from GM to PLEASE contact me. If anyone has contact information, please share. The dealership asked that I drive the truck a while to get used to the ride/drive. THE VIBRATIONS.

They are asking you to put more miles on it so they can say you broke it when you try to bring it back. Then they hope you will just give up and go away. Nobody from GM will help you based on this thread. They may read it but they are not helping anyone. But lets see what happens in the next couple of weeks, who knows, maybe there will be a story in the news like they did on the SUV's.
