So I get a text from the dealer late yesterday saying the truck is repaired and is smooth on the highway. I said "So the Michelins did the trick"? He said YES. I said great, I'll see you tomorrow afternoon when I get off work.

But going back in time and knowing the amount of tires they put on the truck including the original set, the set of tires and OEM rims I bought, a set from a brand new truck on the dealers lot, and a brand new set of Bridgestone's that were perfectly balanced to 7 LBS each per the SM it makes me wonder if in fact it was the recently installed and balanced driveshaft that was the fix and the tires are a cover up? As much as I appreciate the Michelins, (Great tires) when he told me the driveshaft was "slightly out of balance" and that they swapped tires from another new truck and it repaired it, I stared to wonder because the timing is what is questionable.

Wondering now when I pick it up what the paperwork will actually show completed after a month and 1/2 in the shop.

One things for sure, Chevy needs to change their motto from "LIKE A ROCK" to "MORE SENSITIVE THAN A WOMAN".

GMCJOE17: please report back about your personal "feelings" about the vibrations, I hear too many times GM says they are fixed until the owner test drives and feels anything different.

Got a call from the Service manager at the dealer. He said they got the driveshaft back and he said the driveshaft company said it was slightly out of balance. They put the driveshaft back on and it still vibrates. He said he took another set of tires off another truck and put them on mine (AGAIN) and the vibration went away.

He told me he is going to order a brand new set of Michelin tires for it, the best tires for this truck under warranty and he said of that does not correct it then its the rims. I said you would figure the rims would have shown any imbalance on the balancer. He said the machine will not show where the tires bolt to the truck. I said I find it strange that the original rims did it, the set I bought did it, the set you already swapped from a NEW truck did it, and now you changed them with another truck and it went away?

Sitting here SMH and fed up with the entire thing.

So I got to the dealer after work today and the SM told me to go ahead and take it on the highway and come back to make sure I was satisfied. Jumped in and all seems good @ 70 only truck normal bounce.. @ 75 same and @ 80 mph all good. Got back to the dealer and did a once around and did notice a door ding right in the middle of my drivers door. He got me some touch up so I will have to do a little sanding in the spot first. Other than that, one of my nice tire caps was missing but he threw a new one on and even had a porter fill the tank up for me which was nice. (but they did rip through what I had in it)

I am happy it rides like a normal truck but am a tad worried that this issue could return as the tires wear or the truck gets more miles on it. Time will tell on both. I am thinking of throwing some Bilstein's on the back to control the 8 ft bed a little better on the highway. The dealer did give me some sand bags (same bags GM made them buy in troubleshooting the truck). He didn't have the paperwork ready but he said he will email it to me when its done. I imagine 5+ weeks of this thing clocked up some hefty GM billable hours. He did tell me that GM wouldn't approve the Michelin's so the dealer ate them. (Which means they ripped them off another truck on the lot and threw the Bridgestone's on it)

My poor rims have been through road force balance hell with the multiple sets of tires on and off of them in the last few weeks.

More to come when I get the paperwork, glad to have the truck back after this long too.

That's what they put on!

My 2015  2500HD. 4x4 with 8 ft. bed came with Michilen tires and has been smooth as glass since

new.

I drove it 150 miles last night and it was smooth the entire time!

So what do you think it was? Driveshaft or tires?

Also, what specifically did they do to your driveshaft? Balance? New from factory?

I know, I am about to schedule another appointment and don't know if I should let them decide on the plan of action or try and persuade them down a specific route first versus another. Now the more I have read all the issues with shake/vibration it might be a multiple factor which some people may have some more factors than others. Should the plan of attack start with tires or other parts (driveshaft/axle) route.

Bill,

I think it was a mix of the Driveshaft balancing (it was reported as out of balance but I never got to see the data on how much) and the better class of tires. Its like night and day on the highway now.. smooth as silk!

That's great! All the way up past 80mph? Also, how much does a dealership charge for a driveshaft rebalance? Or was it covered under warranty?

Dearmosd,

The dealers are at the mercy of GM for all warranty work. It has to be approved for them to get paid for warranty labor and parts. Luckily I had a really good service manager who made the world of difference in my case and I also shared the information with him on what I read on line on this site and others. If I were you I would start with the service manager, if you feel you are getting a run around then turn up some heat by placing a complaint with the BBB (https://www.bbb.org/). They will then contact GM who will assign your truck a case number and contact the dealer directly. When doing so, you will need to upfront state your case on what you are looking for whether it be a lemon law case or reimbursement for any out of pocket costs you spent on getting the problem corrected. The dealer will then have 14 days to correct the problem or report to GM that they can not repair it and then the lemon law will come into play. In my case I bought my truck used so I didn't qualify for the lemon law but I pushed for arbitration and they settled before it went.

Good luck and I'll follow your posts for sure!

All warranty Bill, and yes I took it to 90 and it was perfect. The crappy thing about GM is they covered the Bridgestones under warranty but refused the Michelin's. The dealer told me they ate the tires on this one (which they got the set of Bridgestones so they came out ok).
