High frequency noise coming from dash when in 4WD

No i didnt drive the new truck on the lot, I just flicked it into 4hi and auto with the engine running. The noise was present while making the switch to 4wd but once it went in, it was quiet again...

The reason it was quiet is because you weren't moving. Start driving around and you'll hear it as it adjusts to varying road conditions.

Add me to the list. This is super annoying. I finally googled the problem after it drove me nuts since I got the truck from my employer. Come on GM ,fix this! It's obviously a problem with the board that controls either the 4wd or the switch.. Being an electrical engineer I'm sure I could fix it, but I don't feel like tearing the dash apart when something should be fixed by the people that make it.

  • OK I have brought my truck in for a transfer case leak twice (3 days for each service) now both times mentioning this electrical chirp and first was told that it was known and it was related to the fuse box but there wasn't a fix.
  • Today i got it back and was told that they do not hear it. I took the service manager service tech and another guy for a ride and while I can hear it clear as day I was told that no-one can hear it.
  • I was also told that there are no complaints in the system. So all you guys and girls who are complaining must not exist? Are you really FORD fans trying to stir up trouble???

Seriously I have 3000 miles on a $46,000 truck and I have brought it in for service 2 times already for the same two problems.

I was promised a call back today from the service manager as he was going to call an engineer but I can't help but wonder If I will hear from anyone?

My truck built 03/14 has the high pitch. I use the 4wd maybe 10 times a year and its annoying but until there's a fire, its not going to get fixed.

Has anyone had this addressed at the dealership yet? Engaged 4wd for the first time this past weekend and the high frequency / high pitch noise was evident and very annoying. 2014 GMC Sierra Denali CC 6.2 3.42 02/14 build

Same noise here. Was very grateful to have found this thread. I booked a service appointment to have it checked out but fear it could be a waste of time seeing as how all of the trucks seem to have the "normal" problem.

I have emails into the service department managers at various dealerships as well with link to this thread. We will see how things go.

Any news from anyone else on this issue?

Wow, I thought I was crazy. That's exactly the piercing chirp I hear when know I switch into Auto and 4wd and back. Don't hear it in 2wd. The techs tell me they can't hear it. Idk. Simply annoying.

Mine has been in the shop for a week now for a plethora of things: shifting seat, rear window rattle, center console rattle, major imbalance (taking the most time as they can't figure out what it is), 4x4 mechanical noise and Last but not least, the high pitch noise. They claim to be able to hear it but say that it's normal........I jumped in another truck on the lot and it does it but not NEARLY as bad. They have called GM engineering and started a solution for the problem but who knows how long that could take! I am trying to get a buyback right now (3 months old and 3400km and its been in the shop for 8 days now).....fed up!

I have the same problem. Dealer said he could not hear it. Drove me nuts last winter in 4x4. Appointment for service at dealer Monday and will hopefully get some help

@GM Customer service

I brought my vehicle in and two different people from service claimed to not be able to hear it ( my wife is Damn near deaf and she can hear it from the passenger side ) but they looked it up and they said there is a bulletin In the system matching my complaint and GM is considering this normal....?

Is that true and do you know if they are looking Into any fix for it? It obviously exists and is frustrating given the amount of money we spent on these vehicles. I love it and love showing it off but hate that in alaska with the amount of time I'm in auto 4wd I have to keep my musi up or I go insane. Thank for you for help!
