Evap Vent Valve Stuck Open 08 Silverado

Had my 08 Silverado throw codes 0499 and 0496, after everything I read I was thinking it would be a simple Purge Solenoid replacement, but I took it to the dealer for a accurate diagnosis, and they said I had my "Evap Valve Stuck Open"

They advised I would need that replaced as well as the harness. The total project including the smoke test would end up costing me about 490. Is this something that can be done without a shop doing it? Is it worth taking somewhere else and not the dealership? Any info is helpful. Thanks

I was told by the dealership that the Vent Valve was stuck open, they told me that it was not the purge solenoid or the canister, which from what I was reading that seemed to be what everyone says the problem is. As for the harness I am unsure what they were talking about, they said that needed to be replaced as well. I am going to be talking to them more today and I am gonna find out what they meant and if it is a necessary replacement.

When you say harness what harness? The vent valve is an easy part to replace.

My vote go for replacing the vent valve and deleting the tube and remote filter. I did this on my sister's truck after researching this issue on her's. Here is the part I used and this repair can be done for under $20.00! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KSCSQU/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It fits the mount and harness! Been working on her truck since May of last year. If you want to spend closer to $75.00 dollars for the unit with the remote filter that will alos fail again but cost you more here is a video on youtube of someone replacing it on their truck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ptiq9odZ3NE
