SLE Crew vs. SLT Double

I looked for this topic but couldn't find one specifically related (although it could be due to my "newness" to the forum) so I apologize in advance if it has been discussed previously

 

I am in the process of finalizing a new truck search coming off a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and have zeroed in on the 2016 GMC Sierra. At this point, my main decision is trying to decide between a Crew Cab and a Double Cab. Understanding that there are multiple configurations of options on the Sierra, the Sierra SLE Crew Cab with "most" the options available on the Sierra SLT Double Cab (other than leather bucket seats with the center console) seem to line up price wise.

 

My question for those of you that have gone through similar decisions, would/do you prefer the Crew Cab SLE version with the cloth front bench seats or the Double Cab SLT version and leather bucket/console? I would be using it a decent amount for carrying my family of four around although it would be our secondary travel vehicle for longer trips etc.

I looked at the same when I got mine. DC SLE vs Crew SLT. For me, we hardly ever have anyone with us, and if we do it's short trips, so the 6.5 ft bed meant more to me than a more spacious back seat and a few more gadgets. So I got the DC SLE and have no regrets.

 

Since you'll be hauling family and possibly taking longer trips with it, I think the crew SLE would be the best fit for you. But... there are people who do it with the DC and are happy. Gonna be tough, but I'd focus on how much the back seat space will mean vs. the SLT goodies.

I like my double cab but rarely haul people around. I enjoy the extra box and added a canopy and camp out inside it with a foam bed, so for me it's perfect asolution a short bed I could not do that. It is only 12 inches diff but it can go a long way for backseat passengers. Kids should be fine in a double but a 6ft man would not be as comfortable. The double can also easily accommodate 2 dogs if you are a pet family. Really up to you though would you be hauling people more or cargo is what I would ask myself.

 

My decision was similar except I was looking at a SLE CC with little to no options added vs Fully Loaded DC w/ Z71 badges.

As for sle vs slt you pretty much nailed it when you said only difference is leather and a couple more bells sle already has all the same whistles available. Personally just me here but I don't like leather nor do I own a leather couch or computer chair at home as just don't like sitting on it. It is bonded or sprayed leather so not real anyway. You only see actual cured leather hide in supercars like ferrari etc and it's not as durable either. If I wanted to trade in my SLE for an upgrade I would honestly skip slt and go for Denali so I had all the bells & whistles as even slt is missing some and those would be the selling point for me not the seats (I still say a lambskin cover is best seating anyway).

Crew Cab is the way to go just try and hold out for a SLT CC, DC is just a tease, you can get a Crew Cab with a standard bed now. so the bed thread is dead, but good luck finding one.

 

BTW I love my Denali, only thing I hate is my grill., 10K off my Denali was a no brainer (supplier discount), I'll take my cake and eat it too. I classify my vehicles as an investment and if needed a return on my investment, so cab space is more valuable, its used 95-99% more than the bed anyways. I have had Crewcab GM trucks for the last 7 years, never had a issue with the short bed.

I would never consider a K2XX double cab. The door openings are tiny at best. Get a crew with the 6.5' bed.

There's no way I'd use a double cab for a family on trips. Maybe for occasional use, but if kids will regularly be sitting back there for any length of time I'd get the crew cab. Even if they fit in the double cab fine now, the kids are only going to grow and take up more space in the future.

 

If you have a Wrangler now, I wouldn't bother getting the longer bed. The short bed still has a lot of space, and if you need more just get a tailgate extender which will turn it into a 7' bed.

Thanks to everyone that has weighed in so far. I was leaning crew and this just helps to validate my thoughts. If I didn't have much use for the second row, I'd definitely go double but with having a 6' 15 year old, I agree with the sentiment from most of you that it's probably too tight back there.

 

Now let's just hope that GMC comes back with some more incentives for August on the crew cabs!

So I literally just made this decision myself more-or-less. I also came from a wrangler unlimited to a GMC Sierra. I went with the crew cab short bed. I ride alone during the week most of the time or with my girlfriend so I don't "need" the extra space. That said, the short bed is still way more room than the back of that wrangler and the backseat leaves extra room for safe storage. I'm hit the range quite often so being able to throw all my guns gear and ammo in the truck and knowing it will lock is a huge deal for me. Also, when friends and I attend any shooting classes out of state it will allow us all to fit comfortably in there for a few hour ride.

 

That said, I've had my truck roughly 72 hours so take it for what its worth. End of the day you can decide on what you want more of, cargo space or people space. Or get a crew cab with the standard bed and have both.

It's a tough decision getting rid of my Wrangler... I've had it for just about 7 years and it's been awesome... I love this Sierra enough to move on finally but these summer days with the top down make it tough! I'm sure you know the feeling! Crew cab with short bed seems like the right call.

The doors are perfectly adequate from my opnion and experience. Kids, Dog, Adults no problems getting in. Then again I remember what it is like to get people into the backseat of a 2 door and compared to that they are spacious!

 

A lot of people will not consider the CC + Regular bed just for the length especially us city dwellers. When you have acres worth of parking and maneuvering in the country is no biggie but when your ass end is sticking out a few feet in a city lot that can make a huge difference. Another down side is there is a less aftermarket demand for them ex) Catback exhaust is easy to get for DC or CC + shortbed as they are same drive train length. It is not just the bed that is bigger but the drive shaft, the wheel base, the exhaust and probably more. Your GCRW and Tow rating is also less since you have the same engine pulling more weight. There is also power loss for every mm/cm/inch of driveshaft to the rear wheels that is just physics which is why it is referred to as RWHP and standard cab + shortbox will always be the most powerful configuration. Personally if I was to go CC + 6.5 bed I would step into a 2500 as that is a better setup suited for HD's IMO.

I had a double cab as a loaner once and took work friends to lunch. I would place a crew cab above most other options in importance personally.

 

Before my Sierra I had a Titan King cab (same size as double but doors are suicide) and I vowed to never get that small of a back seat again.

I have a family of four and debated a new SLE DC or a used SLE CC AT with a few accessories (bakflip, tint). After looking at both and coming from a 4Runner SUV the decision to go CC was simple. I carry passengers a lot and have one child seat. I never thought I would use the truck for trips but have found with the awesome ride comfort mileage and visibility we end up taking more than I ever thought. The thought of new DC was appealing but finding a low mile used CC AT was the right call for us as the extra interior space is needed

I have the crew cab and the standard bed. I bought the crew cab to haul my children and the standard bed so that I can sleep back there on the occasional backwoods fishing or hunting trip. Both decisions have been great for me.

I too went back and forth on the CC or DC. Very rarely do I have any passengers and if I do, it's usually just one person. I debated back and forth and finally a LTZ DC came up at a really good price (almost $-12k off MSRP). It was the color I wanted, had all the bells and whistles so I bought it. The CC would have been nice but finding a black one at that time was not to be found. The extra bed space for me has helped out in the short time that I have owned it as well.

 

The extra room would have been nice but I'm selfish and I'm not paying extra for people to be more comfortable in my truck haha. I do feel the CC will have a better resale but I think the options my truck has will offset that. Basically when I bought mine it would been a LT CC or an LTZ DC for the same price. I opted for the truck in the color I wanted with more options. They always say go big or go home and I don't think you'll ever say "I wish I would have gotten the DC instead of the CC."
