Nappa leather ----- more marketing bullshit.

True, their word not mine, but it is a high quality full leather cover. BMW uses words like "Nappa" and "Dakota" too. Cracks me up. Anyone every wonder how most all BMW's have the same type of leather smell??? They scent it that way. Bottom line it's leather or it's not. All of it is dyed, painted, scented and coated anyway.  But real leather is a far cry from what our trucks come with, which is as manufactured as American cheese is to real cheese.

That's the deal. No standards of identity. Very loosely defined. Toyota got in lots hot water for what it called leather, and steel for that matter. Very murky. You want leather? Buy a Bentley (maybe).

I just noticed this spot in my leather on my 2018 Silverado 1500 LTZ. The spot pictured is thinner to the touch. Nothing has damaged the interior since I bought the truck. The truck is brand new, and I have had it for two months or less. Opinions if factory warranty will cover repair/replacement?

Just had my lower cushion cover replaced in 2 month old truck with a similar appearance. Go to dealer and they will order and replace. Piece of cake

Is that portion, outer bolster, even "leather" in the first place?

The "leather" mostly vinyl seats in these trucks are hard and terrible quality. My new fully leather seat covers just came in made from nappa leather and I am having installed Friday. Smell great, can't wait for the improvement.

What brand of seats did you go with?

I view this material as different but not terrible.  I like it for its durability, ease of cleaning, and looks.  I would be disappointed if this upholstery was found in an exotic luxury car.  If high-end, high maintenance leather was an option for these trucks I would not choose it for my truck.

I fully understand. I can agree, but it's a bit too durable. GM had this issue with the corvettes and too many warrantees regarding the leather on the seats. Quality soft leather will need alot more attention and care. I am sure most consumers feel the same as you. No one wants that job. The Nappa leather in my BMW M3 scuffs if I look at it wrong! Needs lots of care and can't be abused. If I am dirty sweaty or messy, not a car I can jump into, it's unforgiving!

I just came back from the installer of my new "leather" seat covers in my truck. Looks the same (a bit better) but a much better feel, softer and more comfortable. Big difference, but will definetly need to be used nicely. That's not for most people with a truck, but I am good with it for the the trade off of more comfort. I am a nut with taking care of my stuff anyway. I think I have this truck completely dialed in now and will be a longer keep.

Don't really know their name. My installer used to use Katzkin and had many issues with them and will not deal with them. His company actually uses Katzkin samples as he explained they use the same exact colors but use a better grade of leather and flawless work. Two trucks ago I used Katzkin and had no issues for 6 years. But the company he uses is in Ohio and he installed them today and they are awesome. Full leather, soft, excellent quality. Like a new truck, very happy. I also bought a new back cushion from a 2018 Sierra which was a little softer. Test drove one recently and noticed a nice difference so I took the info down and ordered it.

I had the same car. Mine was tan. I sold it and watched the guy driving it get hit by an expedition. The motor fell out of the expedition. The only thing it did to the car was break the bumper skirts.

The front seat surfaces are leather its just low end hide and coated in vinyl.  The sides and headrests are vinyl.  The rear seats on our trucks are all vinyl.   I replaced my factory vinyl/leather with Katzkin full leather interior and it is so worth it.  The Katzkin is also coated leather but I now have 100% leather no vinyl.  It is far softer than the OE leather and holding up much better also smells amazing.  Katzkin is also coated to protect it.  All auto leather is coated.  Unless you have a Analine or Semi-Analine leather interior you should never use conditioner on the seats it will never soak into the coating and just sits on top and attracts dirt and eventually makes the leather shiny and stiff.  Analine and semi analine is uncorrected leather without a coating.

Corrected grain pigmented leather The grain surface is abraded to remove imperfections before the surface coating is applied. A decorative grain pattern is then embossed into the surface.

What makes you think you "have 100% leather no vinyl?"

I ordered the upgraded leather content to 100% from katzkin. I looked over the seats were installed it is all leather from the back side it’s obvious the difference between vinyl and leather
