2018 Silverado Leather Seats

I just noticed this spot in my leather on my 2018 Silverado 1500 LTZ. The spot pictured is thinner to the touch. Nothing has damaged the interior since I bought the truck. The truck is brand new, and I have had it for two months or less. Opinions if factory warranty will cover repair/replacement?

I personally would take it to the dealer and tell them you are "concerned about the factory issue". At least get it documented.  Maybe they will offer to replace it.

Probably a good chance many trucks are like that.  Cows are not perfect as they get bug bite scars and rub up against barb wire.

It's not leather. At least not natural leather. Cows and scars have nothing to do with it. Manufacturing defect.

Nope. Manufactured in a process akin to paper. Leather scent is added and the grain is embossed. The "leather" in most vehicles/furniture/etc. is as close to being cowhide as your newspaper is to being a tree. Just more marketing bullshit.

I know that the leather in our trucks does not come straight from the cow, but the imperfection in Op's leather could be used to fool others into believing it is genuine!  I doubt his dealer would have any difficulty obtaining approval for warranty replacement.

Unless they use the old "that's how it is" dodge.

I work in an industry where lasers and acid are used to etch leather grain patterns in dash, door and seat molds for automotive manufacturers.

Unfortunately, Most of todays " leather " interior is nothing more than composite leather looking vinyl that is stipples and textured to appear like leather.

Often there is a thin skin membrane that covers the material to increase durability.  See below:

That you know of. That is a pretty bold claim, do you check your seat closely each and every time you get in and out to be 100% sure it didn't come from you or someone else? I am going to say no. They may cover it but it certainly could have been your causing, it is 2 months old... Just take it in, us telling you yes or no isn't going to change the actual outcome.

The front seat surfaces are leather its just low end hide and coated in vinyl.  The sides and headrests are vinyl.  The rear seats on our trucks are all vinyl.   I replaced my factory vinyl/leather with Katzkin full leather interior and it is so worth it.  The Katzkin is also coated leather but I now have 100% leather no vinyl.  It is far softer than the OE leather and holding up much better also smells amazing.  Katzkin is also coated to protect it.  All auto leather is coated.  Unless you have a Analine or Semi-Analine leather interior you should never use conditioner on the seats it will never soak into the coating and just sits on top and attracts dirt and eventually makes the leather shiny and stiff.  Analine and semi analine is uncorrected leather without a coating.

Corrected grain pigmented leather The grain surface is abraded to remove imperfections before the surface coating is applied. A decorative grain pattern is then embossed into the surface.

The "leather" mostly vinyl seats in these trucks are hard and terrible quality. My new fully leather seat covers just came in made from nappa leather and I am having installed Friday. Smell great, can't wait for the improvement.
